Mr. and Mrs. Troy S. Robertson of Rural Retreat made a donation to the Good Neighbors Fund after reading about a woman who has been helped by the fund. The Robertsons wrote, "Reading about Dot Lindsey in your article about people who need help makes us want to send a donation because she is someone who worked, even at two jobs, when she could, as well as studying to get a better job."
The Robertsons said they, like Lindsey, understood about working and being ill.
Another contribution came from Susan Smith, in memory of her friend Ed Secrist, who died in October after a lengthy illness. "He was a guy in a million," wrote Smith of Secrist.
"Ed was a wonderful person who quietly and privately helped many, many people who came to him in desperate need of assistance," wrote Smith in a note to The Roanoke Times. "I wanted to make some small gesture to help carry on his memory of giving to someone in need."
