AKERS, Hazel W., 93, of Roanoke, died Thursday, December 14,1995. Arrangements by Oakey's North Chapel.

ALLEN, Isleta Leeper, 68, of Pembroke, died on Wednesday, Decemb er 13, 1995, at her home. She was the daughter of E. Millard and Ethel Bowyer Leeper. She is survived by her children, Ray Allen, Columbia, S.C., Dan Allen, Pembroke, Dierdre Allen, Syracuse, N.Y., and Greg and Toby Allen, Dublin. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her brother and sister-in-law, Zane and Helen Leeper, and nephew Robert Leeper, of Tallahassee, Fla. Isleta grew up in Riner, VA. She received a M.S. Degree from Radford College and was the school psychologist for Giles County for over 20 years. She joined Auburn Methodist Church on profession of faith when she was eleven years old. She loved God, People, Animals, and Music. A memorial service will be conducted at Pembroke Christian Church on Sunday, December 17, 1995, at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Pembroke Christian Church or Auburn United Methodist Church at Riner. Arrangements are with the Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke.

ARTHUR, Ellie Harvey, 84, of Roanoke, formerly of Crewe and Christiansburg, passed away Thursday, December 14, 1995 at the Methodist Home in Roanoke, where she had been a resident for several years. Ellie was the daughter of the late Edward Johnson and Martha Abbitt Harvey of Crewe, and was preceded in death by her husband, C. F. ``Buck'' Arthur; two brothers and one sister. Ellie was retired from the Radford Arsenal, where she worked as a secretary for thirty-five years. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Christiansburg. She is survived by one sister, Rachel H. Fisher, Crewe; two brothers, Nathan N. Harvey, Crewe, S. Bernard Harvey, Norfolk; many nieces and nephews. Private graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, December 16, in Greenhill Cemetery, Altavista. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the St. Paul United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg.

BAKER, Samuel Edward, ``Edd"", 81, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, December 14, 1995. Mr. Baker was a retired mechanic from Jones Motor Co mpany and had been a delivery person for Shepherd's Auto Supply and Terry Walters Precision Engines. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude H. Baker; and his brother, John J. Baker. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, JoAnne B. and Jim Clevinger, Roanoke; a grandson, Chad Starnes; a stepson and his wife, Jerry L. and Betty L. Fink, Troutville; three stepgranddaughters, Lisa, Tonya, and Amy; a sister and brother-in-law, Lillian and Luther Greer, Roanoke; a half brother, Gene Graybill, DeLand, Fla. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel Saturday, December 16, 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark Washington officiating. Interment in Sherwood Memorial Park. DAVIDSON, Ruth Dudley, 83, of Rocky Mount, died Wednesday, December 13, 1995 at Catawba Hospital, Catawba, Va. Born June 18, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Thomas N. and Lelia Moore Dudley. She was preceded in death by her brother, Forrest G. Dudley. Surviving are a brother, Melvin Dudley, Rocky Mount; one sister-in-law , Hazey Hunt Dudley, Penhook; three nephews, Allen, Kenneth and William T. Dudley, all of Rocky Mount; and a special friend, Dorothy Cundiff, Penhook. LEACH, Jimmie Ruth Spence, 64, of Glasgow, died Wednesday, December 13, 1995, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born on January 14, 1931, in Hamlet, N.C., she was the daughter of the late James and Ruth Hayes of Hamlet. Mrs. Leach was married to W. K. Leach, Pastor of Falling Spring Presbyterian Church. She was employed by Washington and Lee University in Lexington. She also served as an Elder at Glasgow Presbyterian Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Ken and Cathy Leach of Forest City, N.C., Randy Leach of Roanoke and Keith Leach of Tallahassee, Fla.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilson and Lolita Hayes of Rockingham, N.C., and Harris and Carol Hayes of Charlotte, N.C.; two granddaughters, Leslie and Lisa Leach of Forest City, N.C., and two grandsons, Michael and Casey Leach of Tallahassee, Fla. A memorial service is planned for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 1995, at the Falling Spring Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. MUELLER, Doreader, of Elburn, Illinois, died Thursday, December 14, 1995. She is survived by one daughter, Ann Koehling, St. Charles, Illinois; two sons, Don and Gary Mueller, both of Elburn, Illinois; two sisters, Eva Sayers, Roanoke, and Pat Lokke, San Jose, Calif.; one brother, Donald Beheler, Roanoke; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. NELSON, Bessie White, 83, of Warrenton, died Wednesday, December 13, 1995 in Warrenton Overlook Care Center. She was born in Roanoke on June 7, 1912, a daughter of the late Howard and Lelia Ring White. She was Secretary/Treasurer of Nelson Construction Co. in Warrenton, which she and her husband owned and operated for many years. She was the wife of the late Philip Page Nelson. She is survived by a son, William H. Nelson, Salem; a daughter, Lee N. Schwertfeger, Warrenton; a sister, Edna Follmar, Salem; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. She was a graduate of William and Mary College and a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. She was a former hostess for Colonial Williamsburg. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Warrenton, and was a former President of the Women of St. James. She was a former president of the Warrenton Library Assn., and formerly served as Entertainment Chairman of the Fauquier Chapter of the Virginia Museum. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 18, 1995 at 2 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 73 Culpeper St., Warrenton, conducted by the Rev. Phillip Cato. Interment will be in Warrenton Cemetery. RIDDLE, Lillian Holliday, 88, a resident of 4711 Eden Drive, N.W., Roanoke, died Wednesday, December 13, 1995 in a Roanoke hospital. She was a native of Abingdon, Va. and had lived in Abingdon most of her life. She was a member of the Abingdon Baptist Church. She was the widow of Bud H. Riddle. Survivors include two daughters, Sue Fagan, Roanoke and Dottie Elsea, Myrtle Beach, S.C. and formerly of Kingsport, Tenn.; a son-in-law, Joe Fagan, Roanoke; one sister, Margaret Puckett, Abingdon; two brothers, Fred Holliday, Saltville and Harry Holliday, Damascus; three grandchildren, Joey Fagan, Blacksburg, Debbie Terry, Greenville, S.C. and Bud Elsea, Atlanta, Ga.; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Lillian Holliday Riddle will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday in the Campbell Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Lawrence J. Pace Jr. and the Rev. Stan McCready officiating. Entombment will follow in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Scot Terry, Tom Sutherland, Jack Clevinger, Phil Coates, Jim Kinder, Freddie Holliday, Curt Stien and Chris Stien. RUTHERFOORD, Julian Hamilton, Jr., 82, of Roanoke, Virginia, departed this life, (at home) to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 6, 1995. Julian Rutherfoord, the son of Julian Hamilton and Willie Penn Rutherfoord, was born and raised in Roanoke. He was predeceased by his brother, John Penn Rutherfoord. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Moore Rutherfoord; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary R. (Penny) and Charley Neil, Fincastle, Margaret R. (Peggy) and Henry F. Fisher, Roanoke; and five grandchildren; as well as two brothers, Thomas D. Rutherfoord, Roanoke and the Rt. Rev. Wm. deJ. Rutherfoord, Fincastle; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Julian was devoted to God, his wife, children and grandchildren. He had an ever ready dry wit, was an avid sportsman and a true Virginia gentleman. Serving in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters during WWII, he was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy assigned as commanding officer of the U.S.S. LST-616. Julian was active in civic, insurance, and democratic circles. He represented the City of Roanoke in the House of Delegates from 1948 to 1962. He was past president of Rutherfoord Insurance Agency and Surplus Lines, Inc. He was also past president of the Roanoke Association of Independent Insurance Agents, The Roanoke Kiwanis Club, Roanoke Guidance Center, and the Roanoke German Club. Mr. Rutherfoord attended Jefferson High School, Chesapeake School, and Roanoke College. He retired from Rutherfoord - Dill Corporation and was a charter member of The Episcopal C hurch of the Holy Spirit. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, at St. Johns Episcopal Church. A memorial service will take place at noon, Saturday, December 16th, at St. Johns Episcopal Church. SPRAKER, William Hobert, 84, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord, on Wednesday evening, December 13, 1995. He was the widow of both Katie A. Spraker and Alice M. Spraker, and a member of Bible Baptist Church. Mr. Spraker was predeceased by his daughter, Catherine Thompson; and his son, William E. Spraker. Surviving are a very special daughter-in-law, Drucilla Spraker, Roanoke; five grandchildren and their spouses, Carolyn and Mike Campbell, Vinton, Elaine and George Croy, Salem, Bill and Vanessa Spraker, Great Falls, Mont., Angie and Doug Scott, Woodbridge, Sandy and John Harden, Roanoke; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Kathleen Morrison, Manassas. TALMAN, Woods Garth, of McMurray Hills Manor, Pittsburgh, Pa., died Tuesday, December 12, 1995. He was the husband of the late Martha Richardson Talman; devoted father of Woods Garth Talman Jr., Allentown, Pa. and Martha Ann Talman, Los Angeles, Calif. and New Yor k City, N.Y.; brother of Elizabeth Talman Chiles, Lexington, Va., William Temple Talman, Richmond, Va., and the late John Edmonds Talman. TOMANN, Wilfrid Joseph Christopher, (``Bill""), 73, of Southwest Roanoke County, formerly of Syracuse, N.Y., died Wednesday evening, December 13, 1995, in a local hospital. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of WWII, Officer in charge of LCTs in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church. He was a retired Professional Engineer from General Electric, serving 10 years in Roanoke and formerly 20 years in HMED (GE) in Syracuse, N.Y. He was a graduate of Cornell University, a member of the Roanoke Valley Power Squadron, and a volunteer for the AARP tax aid program. He was a member of the Society of Barber Shop Quartets, an avid sailor and golfer. Most of all, he was a remarkable husband, father, brother and friend. He is survived by his wife, Alice Jane Tomann, Roanoke; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Tom Lowy, Wayne, Pa., Catherine and William Buchanan, California, Md., Susanna Tomann, Breckenridge, Colo.; stepdaughter and husband, Carol and Leonard Jarman, England; two grandchildren, Kevin and Michael Buchanan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerome and Janis Tomann, Bayside, N.Y., Kenneth and Margaret Tomann, Garrison, N.Y. A funeral mass of the resurrection will be held at St. Andrew's Catholic Church 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. James M. Fosnot officiating.
