AKERS, Hazel White, 93, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, December 14, 1995, in a Richmond Hospital. She was the widow of Auborn L. Akers, and a member of Central Church of the Br ethren. She is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Marjorie A. and William C. McGhee, Mullens, W.VA., Betty A Zigler, Richmond; grandchildren, Patrick McGhee, Mullens, W. VA., Kathy Lyon, Attica, Ind., Timothy McGhee, Charleston, W. VA., Susan McGhee, Morgantown, W. VA., Anne McGhee, Elkins Park, PA.; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Central Church of the Brethren, 416 Church Ave., Roanoke, VA 24016. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m., Monday, at Central Church of the Brethren, by the Rev. David A. Yingling, the Rev. Michael Hostetter, and the Rev. Susan McGhee. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. ARTHUR, Ellie H., 84, of Christiansburg, died Thursday, December 14, 1995 in the United Methodist Home, Roanoke. A private graveside service will be held Saturday, December 16 in Altavista. BAKER, Letcher Joe, 47, of Wytheville, died Thursday at John Randolph Hospital in Hop ewell. He was preceded in death by his parents Dwight Otis Baker and Daisy Elizabeth French Baker. He is survived by his wife, Loretta Smith Baker; two daughters, Jessica Nichole Baker, Dublin, Tina Johnson, Ludowici, GA; one step daughter, Sandra Sparks, Richlands; four step sons, Michael Smith, Wytheville, Tim Smith, Wytheville, Billy Smith, Waverly, Dale Smith, Pearisburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Glenn & Reba Baker, of Troutdale; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Loraine & Roger Plummer, Troutdale, Virginia Mae & Ward Parson, Sugar Grove, Zettia & John Davis, Wytheville, Ruth Garnett, of Welch; four grandchildren; ten step grandchildren, several nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday, 2 p.m. at the Gillman Funeral chapel with interment following at the Crabtree Baptist Church Cemetery. BOBBITT, Valera Beatrice Robertson, 77, of Hardy, died Friday, December 15, 1995, at her home. Born December 26, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Ora and Cora Thurman Robertson. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois J. Bobbitt. Surviving are her husband, Clyde Bobbitt of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Wendell and Margaret McGuire, Moneta; Glenn and Darlene McGuire, Hardy, Beverly and Terri Bobbitt, Vinton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Marion Robertson, June and Roger Cook, Gilbert Bobbitt, all of Hardy, Beatrice and James LaPrade, Rocky Mount; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Olen and Louise Robertson, Hardy, Wesley Robertson, Roanoke; one sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Calbert Fisher, Hardy. BRAMMER, Roy F., 82, of Roanoke, died Friday, December 15, 1995. He is survived by one son, David E. Brammer, Roanoke; two grandchildren, Shaundra and Jordan Brammer. BROWN, R. Sclater, 89, of Nashville, TN, formerly of Blacksburg, died December 12, 1995 at the Health Center at Richland Place. He was a General Agent with Equitable of Iowa for over 65 years, Past Recipient of the Equitable of Iowa Hall of Honor and The Excalibur Award Member, Million Dollar Round Table. Past President, Nashville and Tennessee Association of Life Underwriters. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Belle Meade Country Club, The Cumberland Club of Nashville, TN, The Exchange Club of Nashville. Past Board Member of the Commerce Union Bank. One of the founders of the Tennessee Botanical Gardens and Fine Arts Center (Cheekwood), one of the original founders of the Bay Hill Club (Orlando, FL). He attended VPI and Vanderbilt University. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Saunders; children, R. Sclater Brown, Jr., (Tinka), Margaret B. (Sissie) Anderton (Mack), Mary B. CAMPBELL, Margaret Campbell, ``Hudson"", 76, of Saltville, died Wednesday, December 14, 1995 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. Mrs. Campbell was a lifelong resident of Saltville. She was a member of the United Methodist Plasterco Church. She was an Honor Pythian Sister, Past Grand Chief, and Past Supreme Representative. She is survived by her husband, Charles R. ``Dick"" Campbell, Saltville; one daughter, Mrs. James L. ``Buddy"" (Doris) Price, Saltville; two sons, Tony Campbell, Glade Spring, Charles R. ``Dickie"" Campbell, Olympia, VA; two brothers, Jack Hudson, Glen Burnie, MD, Early J. Hudson, Franklin, NC; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret (Hudson) Campbell will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, December 18, 1995 in the D.R. CLARK, Bonnie Phillippi, 87, of Bland, died Thursday, December 14, 1995, in the G. B. Kegley Manor Nursing Home, Bastian. She was a daughter of the late Fayette and Lura Harris Phillippi and a member of the St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Bland. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Charles Marvin Clark, Bland; two daughters, Katherine C. Quillen, Clarksville, Doris C. Hill, Silver Springs, Md.; two sons, Gerald Vance Clark, Pulaski, Donald Marvin Clark, Silver Springs, Md.; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, also survive. FAINTER, Mary Smith, 85, of Natural Bridge Station, died Thursday, December 14, 1995 in the Stonewall Jackson E.C.F. Mrs. Fainter was born September 17, 1910 in the Botetourt County. A daughter of the late Madison Gilmore Smith and Bessie Caldwell Smith. She was a member of the Natural Bridge Christian Fellowship Church and was preceded in death by her son Haden Gilmore Fainter and former husband Alexander Haden Fainter. She is survived by six daughters, Mary F. Vines, Lexington, Doris F. Stark, Lexington, Catherine F. Renz, Buena Vista, Sophie F. Camden, Meadows of Dan, Caroline F. GEREAUX, John D., 66, of St. Louis, Mo., formerly of Roanoke, Va., passed away Thursday, December 14, 1995. He was an Army veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. GRAHAM, Pearle Nancy, 89, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, December 14, 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, Amos G. Graham; and son, Graydon I. Graham. GUILLIAMS, Eunice Lorraine, 69, of Callaway, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday evening, December 14, 1995, after a lengthy and courageous battle with many complications. As she was being summoned to come home, she was surrounded by numerous loved ones and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ezekial and Ruth Nichols; an infant daughter, Anna Lee Richards; and two brothers, Alton and Billy Nichols. She was the pillar of strength, guidance and support of her husband of forty years and to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her great joy and a twinkle to her eye. To her, worldly possessions meant little. Her greatest possessions were times spent with her family, both in adversity as well as joy. She leaves many survivors and devoted friends as she goes to spend eternity with her Lord. Surviving are her husband, Herman L. HARRIS, Miss Virginia Lee, 81, of Roanoke, died Friday, December 15, 1995 in a local Nursing Home. Miss Harris received her Bachelor's Degree from Mary Washington College and Masters Degree from V.P.I. She was a former Business Education Teacher in Rocky Mount, Va., Jefferson High School, Roanoke and Radford University. Miss Harris was a past member of A.A.U.W. and the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was a member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church. Surviving are a sister Lucille H. ""Lucy"" Fink, Roanoke; nephews, Wilson Nash, Virginia Beach, Va., David Nash and his wife, Patricia, Roanoke and William Nash and his wife, Clara, Roanoke. KITTS, Bonnie Agee, 45, of Salem, died Thursday night, December 14, 1995 in a Roanoke Hospital. She was a homebound teacher in the Salem-Roanoke County School System and is survived by her husband, Gary M. Kitts; two sons, Jim Kitts, Brian Kitts, Salem; her parents, Andrew C. and Gladys Ruth Agee, Christiansburg; three sisters, Carolyn Perdue, Christiansburg, Linda Dickerson, Pulaski and Dianne Kelley, Roanoke; a brother-in-law and his wife, Richard Lee and Diane E. Kitts; four nephews and two nieces. The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday from the S. Paul United Methodist Church in Christiansburg, conducted by the Rev. Doug Kanney. MADERO, Fred John, of Pearisburg, died Friday, December 14, 1995, in the Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. He was the son of the late Dominick and Rosina Madero. He attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Pearisburg. He was a member of the National Chapter of the A.A.R.P. He was on the advisory council of the R.S.V.P. and was a member of the Has Been Club with the former Boxing Association. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post #68 of Narrows. He is survived by his wife, Carol B. Madero, Pearisburg; two sons, Fred Madero, Baltimore, Md., Larry Thorn, Deale, Md.; two daughters, Shirley Benny, Baltimore, Md., Sandra Johnston, Baxter, Ky.; a brother and sister-in-law, Francis and Millie Madero, Silver Springs, Md.; a sister-in-law, Louise Madero, Cumberland, Md.; 9 grandchildren. McCOY, Walter Floyd Sr., (``Mac''), 85, of Roanoke, joined his loved ones in heaven, after passing away at home, Thursday, December 14, 1995, lovingly cared for by his family. Born in Montgomery County, May 6, 1910, he was the son of the late George Seymour and Eura Lenora Kerr McCoy. Mr. McCoy retired from Magic City Ford after 25 years service. He was preceded in death by a son, Walter Floyd McCoy Jr.; and a daughter, Ramona Belle Guilliams; two brothers, Emmett S. McCoy and Leonard E. McCoy; and one sister, Lida McCoy Dowdy. TURMAN, Neva Sutphin, 77, of Salem, died Friday, December 15, 1995. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arnold D. Turman. She is survived by three daughters, Ninevah Wygal of Roanoke County, Barbara Jean Turman and Frances Turner, both of Salem; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Estelva Farmer of Roanoke County. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 10 to 12 p.m. Saturday at the John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, Salem. VAUGHN, Goldie ``Lois"" Beasley, 69, of Austinville, passed away Friday, December 15, 1995 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital, Winston-Salem, N.C. Mrs. Vaughn was born January 14, 1926 in Carroll County, Va. She was a member of Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence E. Beasley. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Goldie and Ronald Stone, Effie and Gilmer Dunford, all of Austinville, Rita Lou and Anthony Edwards, Dublin; sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest and Glenna Vaughn, Hillsville, David and Shanon Vaughn, Austinville, Jerry and Sherry Vaughn, Claytor Lake; mother, Edith E. Beasley, Austinville; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Patsy Beasley, Hillsville; sister and brother-in-law, Alene and Harold Myers, Austinville; special granddaughter, Wendy Weddle; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, December 17, 1995, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville, with Elder Joe H. McGrady and Elder Ronald Bowman officiating. Interment in Pickett Cemetery. WILSON, Gladys Phibbs, 83, of Marion, formerly of Fries, Va., died Thursday, December 14, 1995, in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Wilson. She is survived by four sons, Charles Wilson and Robert Wilson, both of Marion, Ind., David Wilson of Mt. Airy, N.C., Jimmy Wilson of Marion, Va.; four daughters, Ruby Reynolds of Narrows, Mary McGuire of Alexandria, Carolyn Anderson of Pulaski, Connie Sizemore of Damascus; one sister, Guida Wilson of Fries; four brothers, Foy Phibbs of Chilhowie, Paul Phibbs, Clifton Phibbs and John Phibbs, all of Fries; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. James Phibbs of Galax, Mrs. Fred Phibbs of Mt. Airy, N.C.; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Mary Sizemore of Galax; and extended family, friends and staff of Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 17, 1995, at 3 p.m. at the Fries Church of God of Prophecy in Fries, Va., with the Rev. Russell Austin, the Rev. Paul Horton and the Rev. Lacy King officiating. Burial will follow in Monta Vista Memorial Gardens in Galax, Va. The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. on Sunday to lie in state. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel and anytime at the home of Jimmy Wilson, Marion, Va. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service of Marion, Va. is in charge of the arrangements.
