WIDOW'S WILL SETS UP FUND FOR CADETS

The widow of an Indiana lawyer who graduated from Virginia Military Institute has established a $2 million scholarship fund for cadets at the all-male military school.

Thelma Sansberry, who died May 23, specified in her will that the James C. Sansberry Scholarship Fund be set up to assist any young man who wants to attend the institute, with preference to Indiana residents.

Charles H. Dickmann, co-executor for Thelma Sansberry's estate, presented a check for $1 million last week to Maj. Gen. Josiah Bunting III, VMI superintendent.

Another $1 million will be put into an endowment.

``The most helpful kind of gift that could be given to a school or college is a gift like this one,'' Bunting said. ``This is an endorsement of hope and promise for the future.''

A 1916 graduate of VMI, James Sansberry taught at the school before becoming a lawyer in Anderson, Ind. He died in 1981.
