Beer anniversary

Herbert L. and Elsie Starkey Beer celebrated their 50th anniversary on November 18, 1995, at Lakeland Masonic Lodge. They were married December 28, 1945, in Washington, D. C. They have two children, Carol Ann Woody, Charleston, S. C., and Barry Herbert Beer, Wixom, Mich. They have six grandchildren, Jill and Mark Woody, Melissa, Jessica, Lauren and Tyler Beer, and two step-grandchildren, Autumn and Amber. Herbert is a retired detective from Roanoke Police Dept. and was a court security supervisor in the federal court system. Elsie is a retired federal government employee and had a second career with First Union Home Equity Bank. Brown anniversary

Jesse and Gladys Brown have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a week-end retreat at The Homestead in Hot Springs, compliments of their sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Joyce, Donnie and Tracy. They were married December 15, 1945, in Vinton by Rev. J. Roy Robinson. Jesse is retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad with 45 years service. Gladys is retired from the F. W. Woolworth Company with 27 years service. She is the former Gladys Foster. They have four grandchildren and one stepgrandchild. The Browns attend Barnhardt Baptist Church. Gray anniversary|

Richard and Lena Gray celebrated their 50th anniversary on October 27, 1995. The celebration, hosted by daughter and son-in-law and grandchildren, was held at the Peaks of Otter Lodge. The couple was married October 25, 1945, in Montvale, Va. by the late Rev. John W. Bolick of Montvale. They have one daughter, Margaret G. Howell, and son-in-law Kenneth, of Huddleston, Va., five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Gray is retired from Armour Co. and Mrs. Gray is retired from Nations Bank. Hensley anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Milton Hensley celebrated their 50th anniversary on November 5, 1995. The celebration was held at the Dutch Inn (family luncheon) hosted by their children and their spouses. The couple was married November 14, 1945, in Martinsville, Va., where they have lived for 50 years. Mrs. Hensley is the former Lovelene Anne Bowling. The children are Warren Hensley, Kansas City, Mo., and Karen Spears, Roanoke, Va. The couple have three grandchildren and they are both retired. Turcotte anniversary

Frank and Ruby Turcotte celebrated their 50th anniversary December 3, 1995, at Belmont Baptist Church. They were married December 1, 1945. She is the former Ruby Harth. They have two children, Robert and Kathryn Turcotte, a daughter-in-law, Connie Turcotte, and two granddaughters, Liza and Sarah Turcotte.

Guy and Irene (Dixie) Wilson celebrated their 50th anniversary on December 14, 1995. The celebration was held at Mayflower Hill Baptist Church hosted by their children. The couple was married December 14, 1945. They have lived in Roanoke for 50 years. Mrs. Wilson is the former Irene V. Daniel. The couple's children are Sheila Levinson, Chicago, Ill., Richard Wilson, Kay W. Etter and Rhonda W. Simmons, Roanoke, Va. They have eight grandchildren. Mr. Wilson retired from Smith's Transfer, and Mrs. Wilson is a homemaker. They belong to Mayflower Hill Baptist Church. For most of their married life, Guy and Irene played country music together in their own band call Dixie Wilson and the Wanderers. They now sometimes play gospel music with other bands throughout the area. Wiseman anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Maurice W. Wiseman celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on November 25, 1995. A family dinner was held at the Holiday Inn hosted by their daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Crim Lotts of Newport News, Va. The couple was married December 18, 1945, in Belmont Methodist Church, Roanoke, Virginia. They are lifelong residents of the Roanoke Valley. Mrs. Wiseman is the former Lois Mae Brown. The couple has two grandchildren. Mr. Wiseman is retired from the Roanoke City Fire Department. They belong to Huntington Court United Methodist Church.
