VANDALS TRASH WREATH MADE OF BEER CANS

Vandals have trashed a Christmas wreath that drew neighborhood anger because it was made of crushed beer cans.

The 2-foot-wide garland, topped with a red velvet bow, was snatched from the Selisker family's garage and demolished on the front lawn. The vandals also hacked up strings of lights that decorated the yard, Nancy Selisker told police Saturday.

``I don't think it was kids pulling a prank,'' she said. ``I think it was someone trying to make a statement.''

She said the wreath was made by her 18-year-old daughter, Rachel.

The Kiln Creek Owners' Association last week ordered the family to take the wreath down by Dec. 23, saying it violated the association's nuisance clause.

While the family was surveying the damage Saturday, Selisker said, several people driving past pointed and laughed at the beer cans scattered along the road.

``Christmas is supposed to be a time of peace and good will,'' she said. ``This is pure hate.''
