Cholesterol test

FLOYD - Hoping to increase turnout at its blood drive, the American Red Cross will give donors free home cholesterol test kits at the Thursday, Dec. 28, blood drive at the Bank of Floyd community room, from noon to 6 p.m.

The Johnson & Johnson Advanced Care Cholesterol Test will allow users to test their cholesterol levels at home.

Donors need to be in good health, at least 17 years old, and weigh at least 105 pounds.

Seeking live trees

BLACKSBURG - The Blacksburg Parks and Recreation Department will pick up live, burlap-balled Christmas trees after the holiday.

The department will plant the trees at the Nellies Cave Park Arboretum. Call Dean Crane at 961-1133 to schedule a pickup.

Help for caregivers

BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech's Resource and Referral Service will help area residents who need help caring for children, elderly family members or family members with disabilities.

The service offers child care referrals, parenting information, elder companions, parenting and family living seminars, respite care, and family support.

Hospital calendar

Complimentary copies of a 1996 calendar published by Radford Community Hospital are available by calling the public affairs department at 731-2380. "Shaping the Future of Health Care," is the theme of the calendar which showcases the hospital's replacement hospital project. Children from area day care centers are featured throughout the calendar which also doubles as an annual report.

Child Advocacy Day

The Action Alliance for Virginia's Children and Youth has announced that Jan. 31 is Child Advocacy Day 1996. The alliance invites Virginians to gather on that day at the Virginia General Assembly and "vote 'yes' for children" on issues such as block grants, juvenile justice reform and education funding.
