CUMBEE, Alfred Mason, age 61, of Salem, died Thursday, December 21, 1995. He was employed with Bartley Tree Service. FLORA, Betty Wray, 68, of Boones Mill, went to be with the Lord Friday, December 22, 1995. She was an active member of the Bethelehem Church of the Brethren, where she served as Sunday School teacher and was an active member of both the Adult Choir and the Women's Fellowship. Surviving are her husband of 45 years, Galen D. Flora; three children and their spouses, Wendell and Mary McNeil Flora, Boones Mill, Harriet and James B. Mills, Boones Mill, Charles and Lynn Flora, Roanoke; three grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Mills, Megan Flora; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth (Dibby) and Rev. Jesse Bowman, Lightfoot, Nancy and C. E. Fisher Jr., Roanoke; one brother and sister-in-law, F. D. Jr. and Thelma Wray, Boones Mill; one sister-in-law, Bernice Wray, Boones Mill; two brothers-in-law, Howard Harmon, Front Royal, Bennie Angell, Boones Mill; and several nieces and nephews. HAYNES, Edward Rudolph, 72 of Bedford, passed away Frid ay, December 22, 1995 in the Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was born April 29, 1923 in Bedford County, a son of the late Herbert Hedley Haynes, Sr. and Mary Gibbs Haynes. He was self-employed in the heating and air-conditioning business, was a member of the Lynchburg Moose #1727, a veteran of World War II and a member of the Timber Ridge Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Orange Haynes; three daughters and son-in-law, Phyllis Truxell, Buananan, Patsy Williams, Lynchburg, Shirley and Jimmy Cundiff, Bedford; two brothers, Berkley Haynes, Bedford, Donald Haynes, Maryland; two sisters, Betty Seaman, Lynchburg, Frances Klinkenberg, Bedford; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, December 24, 1995 at 2 p.m. from the Timber Ridge Baptist Church, by Rev. Clayton Riggs. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. HOWARD, John S., 80, of Lebanon, Va. died in Roanoke, Va. Nursing Home on Thursday, December 21, 1995. He was the widower of Lola Fletcher Howard and a lifelong resident of Russell County. He was a former Sheriff and Clerk of Russell County. He was a member of the Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church and a Farmer. Survivors include 3 daughters, Mrs. Richard (""Mary Jane"") Pattisall, Roanoke, Mrs. Tom (""Frances"") Potter, Springsfield, Miss Margaret A. LITTLE, Alan Lynn 35, of Route 1, Rockbridge Baths, died Friday, December 22, 1995 at his residence. Born March 10, 1960, in Lexington, he was the son of Charles H. and Stella Jean Mohler Little, of Rockbridge Baths. Mr. Little was a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church and was a self employed farmer. Surviving beside his parents are; sister and brother-in-law, Karen L. and Sig Podlejski, Rockbridge Baths; brother and sister-in-law, Charles Dean and Sandy Little, Rockbridge Baths; brother, Jay M. Little, Rockbridge Baths; three nieces, Kandace, Arielle and Signa Podlejski, Rockbridge Baths. OVERSTREET, Gordon Harrison, (G. H.), 80, of Snow Creek Community, died Friday, December 22, 1995 at his residence. He operated the Snow Creek Grocery for over 50 years. Mr. Overstreet was preceded in death by his daughter, Delorese Manuel and three sisters and one brother. Surviving are his wife, Doris McCrickard Overstreet; son and daughter-in-law, Euell and Kathy Overstreet, Martinsville; one son-in-law, James Manuel, Martinsville; four grandchildren and spouses, Phillip E. and Robin Manuel, Lynette and Rand Hatchett, Valerie Overstreet, Suzanne Overstreet; one great-grandchild, Kari Dee Hatchett; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Georgia and Luther Booth, Roanoke, Era Poison, Burlington, Conn., Gladys and Harry Johnson, Moneta, Leona and Clarence English, Moneta, Rebecca and James Landsdown, Salem, Betty Martin, Stuart; three brothers and sisters-in-law, John P. PETERS, Blanche P., 86, of Vinton, formerly of Grottoes, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, December 21, 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell L. Peters Sr., a brother, Russell Poff. She was a lifelong member of Salem Baptist Church . Surviving are two daughters, Betty Ann Dameron, Vinton, Pat and husband, Tommy Wood, Grottoes; son, Russell (Butch) and wife, Judith Peters, Daleville; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren; two sisters, Beatrice Cook, Grottoes, Imogene Poff, Waynesboro; a brother, Wilmer Poff, Virginia Beach. REED, Lorriane Carr, 78, of Copper Hill, died Thursday night, December 21, 1995 in a Salem hospital. She was a school teacher with the Floyd County School System for 38 years. Surviving are her husband, Ervin T. Reed, Copper Hill; one daughter and husband, Kay and Wayne Jacobs, Roanoke; one son, Douglas Reed, Lawrenceville, Ga.; four grandchildren, Terry Reed, Sharron McCormack, Melissa Payne, all of Georgia, David Smith, Roanoke; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clint Carr, Roanoke, Henry Carr, Salem. STURGILL, Robert O. Jr., (``Bob""), 65, of Rt. 1, Box 185, Hiltons, died Thursday, December 21, 1995. He was born in Wise County, Va. and was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a graduate of Coeburn High School, Coeburn, Va. and the Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy. He was a member of the Virginia Parmacudical Association, Radford Host Lions Club, Tri-State Phinzguaer Breeder and a lifetime member of V.F.W. He was a licensed Pharmacist for 36 years and was employed with Revco. He was a member of Darthula Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Oscar Sturgill Sr. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Ann Roberson Sturgill, of the home; daughter, Patricia Sturgill Burris, Knoxville, Tenn; two sons, Donald V. Sturgill, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Philip R.Sturgill, Radford; seven grandchildren; mother, Sybil Cole Sturgill, Wise; two sisters, Mrs. James C. (Dixie) Hill, Big Stone Gape, Mrs. Gene (Faye) Huff, Lebanon; two brothers, Jack C. Sturgill, Petersburg, W. Va., William (Butch) Hutchinson, Norton; and several nieces and nephews. WARFE, John Sherman Sr., 87, of Roanoke, died Thursday, December 21, 1995. He had retired from Roanoke City Schools and was a member of the Southwest Church of God of Prophecy. He was preceded in death by his sons, Joseph and Ronald Warfe. He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Warfe; daughters and sons-in-law, Claudine and Clarence Shepherd, Margaret Spencer, Joyce and Norman Hackley, Rosetta and Roger Holland; sons, John S. Warfe Jr., William L. Warfe; sister, Beatrice Alls; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. WEAVER , Virginia A., 84, of Roanoke County, died Thursday, December 21, 1995 in a local hospital. She was the widow of Russell C. Weaver, a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, and was retired from Roanoke County Schools Food Service. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Coy L. and Deanna H. Weaver, Roanoke Co.; daughters and son-in-law, Judy and Roger Furrow, High Point, N.C., Lois Weaver, New York City; five grandchildren, Sherri Musselman, Oregon City, Ore., Lee Weaver, Jr., Houston, Texas, Code Sizemore, Roanoke, Tad Furrow, Arlington, Wendy Furrow, High Point, N.C. WILKERSON, Arthur Mayo, 84, of Roanoke, died Friday, December 22, 1995. Arrangements by the Lotz Salem Chapel.

WILLIAMS, Jr., Master SGT. Ret., James Crafton, 74, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, December 21, 1995 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born in Raleigh, N.C. on November 7, 1921, he was the son of the late James C. Williams, Sr. and Katie Horne Williams. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles G. Williams and Ivan Williams. A World War II and Vietnam Veteran, he served in active duty for 20 years, receiving 14 medals, including 3 purple hearts, two bronze stars, a silver star with oak leaf cluster and the French Croix de Guerre with bronze star. He was a life time member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, member of Blacksburg Lions Club, and the Blacksburg Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Jean Reynolds Williams; two sons, James B. Williams and Terrell Williams; one daughter, Mary Lynda Williams; two step-sons, Lee E. Martin, Jr., and Danny W. Martin; two brothers, Thomas S. Williams and Paul R. Williams; and 3 step-grandsons. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, December 24, 1995 at Blacksburg Baptist Church with the Rev. Don McKinney officiating. Interment will be Tuesday, December 26, 1995 at 2 p.m. in Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh, N.C. conducted by Dr. Charles Dorman. WRIGHT, Harley Ray, 73, of Salem, died Thursday, December 21, 1995. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Pearley Wright, brothers, Shafter Wright, Carlie Wright, a sister, Violet Wright Stielwell.
