GIFT HELPS READER DEAL WITH HER GRIEF

``On Oct. 7, 1994, my life changed forever. My dear husband, Douglas Wilson, was killed in a car accident," wrote Carol Wilson in her letter with her contribution to the Good Neighbors Fund.

"I did not 'do' Christmas last year," she continued. "The traditional house decorating and tree celebration, I just could not cope with."

As a way to deal with her grief, Wilson said, "I prayed a lot and spent time with family and friends. I drove to Eastern Shore, Maryland, where [Doug's] family resides, to visit them for Christmas."

But things were better this holiday season for Wilson. "As I decorated my tree this year, I knew what was missing. I needed to give," she realized. "I needed to fill an empty spot in someone's heart who had nothing to give."

So along with her donation, she has shared words of encouragement "to everyone out there who has lost someone."

Contributors over the Christmas weekend and Tuesday included:
