The U.S. Supreme Court will decide Jan. 5 whether to hear a Stafford County couple's claim that their deaf son was denied an interpreter because of their religious beliefs.
Stafford school officials say they were not required to provide the translator once Matthew Goodall transferred to Fredericksburg Christian School. He graduated last June. Robert and Kathleen Goodall claim the $14,000 a year cost of a translator was an undue burden and violated their right to free exercise of religion. The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected that argument last July.
