A 22-year-old Radford man was charged with driving under the influence after a Tuesday afternoon accident in Pulaski County near Fairlawn.
Trooper B.K. Owen said Stephen R. Schwenk was driving west on Belspring Road, approximately a mile from Peppers Ferry Boulevard, about 4:30 p.m. when his car crossed the double line and stuck an eastbound vehicle head-on.
The other driver, Vanessa Walker, 22, of Radford, was taken to Radford Community Hospital and later flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was listed in very serious condition Tuesday night.
Schwenk was treated at Radford Community for minor cuts and bruises. Neither victim was wearing a seat belt, but an air bag in Walker's car inflated.
Schwenk was released from Pulaski County Jail shortly before midnight Tuesday on an unsecured bond.
