DES MOINES, Iowa - Republican Pat Buchanan will get the backing of a group of conservative ministers today, a move aides said shows the conservative commentator has made deep inroads among social conservatives.
Buchanan has scheduled a news conference to announce the formation of ``Pastors for Pat,'' a group of about a dozen Iowa conservative religious leaders, said a campaign aide who spoke on condition of anonymity.
``We've built a coalition of pastors,'' said the aide. ``We will have inroads among social conservatives.''
The announcement will come as Buchanan launches a four-day campaign swing stumping for the state's precinct caucuses where he hopes to demonstrate he's among the first tier of candidates seeking the GOP presidential nomination. - Associated Press Perot party earns spot on N.D. ballot
BISMARCK, N.D. - Ross Perot's Reform Party earned its own column on the North Dakota ballot Tuesday, making the state the second to list it as a major political party.
Al Jaeger, North Dakota's secretary of state, said the Reform Party had submitted the 7,000 petition signatures required to gain a listing as a separate party.
The Reform Party has already qualified for the California ballot, and hopes to get on the ballot in Maine, Arkansas, South Carolina and Utah by mid-January. Associated Press
