IN SERVICE

AIRMAN CHARLES A. DAVIS, son of Leo A. Davis of Roanoke, has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

MATTHEW B. STRATTON, son of Richard W. and Sharon T. Stratton of Vinton, recently completed an ROTC field training camp at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Stratton, a 1993 graduate of William Byrd High School, is a student at North Carolina State University.

SECOND LT. AARON R. CRAIG, son of Ralph and Eva Craig of Vinton, graduated from Officer Candidate School in Quantico and was commissioned to his present rank. He's undergoing training for new officers at Quantico. Craig, a 1990 graduate of William Byrd High School, also received a bachelor of arts degree in 1994 from Roanoke College.

PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS MORGAN M. FOSTER, son of Melissa and Ray Foster Jr. of Blue Ridge, recently received the Navy Commendation Medal while serving at the Submarine Training Facility in Norfolk. Foster was recognized for his outstanding performance as the damage control/firefighting division supervisor. He serves aboard the USS Phoenix.

Foster is a 1993 graduate of Staunton River High School.

COAST GUARD CHIEF PETTY OFFICER WAYNE G. MIESEN of Roanoke recently took part in the commissioning ceremony for Coast Guard Port Security Unit 305 in Portsmouth. Miesen is a 1975 graduate of Roanoke College and has been a Roanoke police officer for 20 years.

MARVIN LOYD JR., son of Marvin and Evelyn Loyd, has been promoted to corporal in the Marines and has been assigned to 29 Palms, Calif.

ROBERT E. FUDGE, of Charlotte, N.C., and formerly of Roanoke, has been elected national vice president of the Fleet Reserve Associations.

Fudge entered the Navy in 1944 and retired as a chief journalist in 1968. He has served as associate editor of the Navy Times, director of press and public relations for Seagram Distillers in London, and in the hotel business, primarily with American Motor Inns in Roanoke.

He is a former regional president of the association, which is made up of career and enlisted members of the Navy, Marines and Coast Guard.

HOSPITALMAN APPRENTICE KATHY L. LLOYD, daughter of Elizabeth A. Lloyd of Roanoke, recently graduated from the Navy's Hospital Corps School. She is a 1991 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

PVT. ROBERT D. TICE, son of Michael L. Tice of Blue Ridge, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island S.C. He is a 1995 graduate of Liberty High School.

PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS SCOTT A. HARMON, son of Kenneth L. and Patty S. Harmon of Vinton, recently returned to Norfolk after completing a six-month deployment aboard the USS MIssissippi, which included duty in the Adriatic Sea near Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Harmon is a 1989 graduate of Staunton River High School.

PVT. ELIAS J. ROBERTSON, son of Sarah G. Chapman of Roanoke, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

PFC. DOUGLAS J. FUHRO, a 1995 graduate of Northside High School, recently completed basic training with Recruit Training Regiment, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

PFC. CHARLES G. DAVIS, son of Faye D. Hedrick of Vinton, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C., and was meritoriously promoted to his present rank. He is a 1995 graduate of William Fleming High School.
