FOND MEMORIES OF ROANOKE

Eight years and 600 miles did not prevent Kay Smith from making a donation to the Good Neighbors Fund in memory of her aunt and uncle, Alma and Jim (Wilbur) Light, late of Roanoke. "They were wonderful, giving people," said Smith, who now lives in Dothan, Ala., with her husband Ron, "and I have many fond memories of my years in Roanoke." Smith was particularly close to her Aunt Alma, whose nickname, "Sunny," "fit her personality very well."

The Smiths were in Roanoke shortly before Christmas to visit Cecil Light and Carolyn Underwood, surviving siblings of the honorees, and to buy gifts for the Salvation Army Angel Tree at Valley View Mall. "One of my favorite Christmas activities is to shop for the angel trees," said Smith.

This was the Smiths second year of giving to Good Neighbors in memory of the Lights.
