Pulaski calendar
PULASKI - Pulaski County could have a calendar of events as early as 1997.
The problem in compiling such a calendar is that the information on festivals, governmental meetings and other activities would have to be available no later than April of 1996. That is when calendar companies begin printing materials for the following year, and calendar costs rise drastically after that time.
Community National Bank has a 1996 calendar, which is is distributing free to the public, which would be the prototype for the 1997 calendar of events. Each month has a different photograph of a Pulaski County scene mainly provided by photographers Mack Williams and Eric Brady. Bank officials culled hundreds of photographs to come up with the 12 used on the calendar.
It is no coincidence that bank President Wayne Carpenter is vice chairman of the town's Economic Development Board, which has discussed finding a way to offer an events calendar to town and county residents. Carpenter said he hoped that the bank's 1997 calendar will be the first events calendar.
Keith Stafford, assistant to Pulaski Economic Development Director Barry Matherly, has a large file of annual festivals and will provide the starting point for the events listings.
Information on dates of meetings or events for 1997 should be forwarded to the Economic Development Board office in the Pulaski Municipal Building.
Collecting trees
BLACKSBURG - The town will collect Christmas trees Jan. 2-12. Trees should be out out on Jan. 2 and await pickup from the Public Works Department. The trees will be processed into mulch which will be used throughout the Town. For information or questions, call 961-1141 or 961-1142.
