CLEMONS, Robert Samuel, (``Slim""), 63, of Floyd, passed away Sunday, December 31, 1995. He is survived by one sister, Gracie Gibson, Floyd; three nieces, Sandra G. Martin, Frances G. Quesenberry, both of Willis; three nephews, Kerry Ray Gibson, Riner, Richard S. Gibson, Ronald D. Gibson, both of Floyd; five grand-nieces; three grand-nephews; and one great-grand-nephew. DAVIDSON, Judge James McClintic, Jr., 80, of Lynchburg, died Friday, December 29, 1995, at Drinkard Health Care Center. He was the husband of the former Martha Stone Gathright. Judge Davidson was born March 6, 1915, in Lexington to the late James McClintic Davidson Sr. and the late Katherine Armitage Hoge Davidson. Judge Davidson sat until 1980 in the 25th District Court, which included Rockbridge, Botetourt, Augusta and Craig counties, and the cities of Lexington, Buena Vista and Staunton. He was proud to be a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College, and the Washington and Lee University School of Law, Class of 1943. He was a member of the Robert E. Lee Memorial Episcopal Church in Lexington. He served as President of the Rockbridge Bar Association, and was a member of the Rockbridge Travel Club and the Brownsburg Ruritan Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a stepson, Thomas M. Gathright of Afton; a sister, Marie Marshall Davidson of Washington, D.C.; three grandsons, and several nieces. He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery, Lexington, by the Rev. David R. Cox. FEATHER, Ruth T., 91, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday afternoon, December 31, 1995. She was the widow of C. Fleming Feather, and a member of Virginia Heights Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, Electa Chapter #33. Mrs. Feather was preceded in death by a son, Fleming R. Feather, and a daughter, Irene F. Dyer. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Lucian S. and Ginger Feather of Mooresville, N.C., and Robert Z. and Cathy Feather of Rocky Mount; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Mildred F. McClanahan, Martha F. Hill, Catherine F. and Carey Steger of Roanoke, Marjorie F. and Steve Veasey of Snellville, Ga., and Susie F. and Robert Hess of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy F. GRIFFITH, Juanita Robinson, 86, of Salem, passed away Sunday, December 31, 1995. She was the widow of Lee J. Griffith and a member of Covenant Presbyter ian Church. She was the loving mother of three sons and two daughters-in-law, Roger L. and Reba Griffith of Sheffield, Ala., Bruce W. and Sandi Griffith of Roanoke, and Barry N. Griffith of Roanoke; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy G. and Karl B. Taylor of Salem; nine grandchildren, Julie G. Walker, R. Lee Griffith, Grace Jean G. Brinkley, Alison T. Larson, Andrew B. Taylor, Amy L. Taylor, David N. Griffith, Christie L. Griffith and Brian J. Griffith; two great-grandchildren, Katherine C. Larson and M. Wells Larson, and two sisters, Sylvia R. LACKEY, Mamie Eugenia Page, 96, of Lexington, died Sunday, December 31, 1995 at the Shenandoah Valley Health Care Facility, where she had been a patient since November, 1994. She was born on August 26, 1899 in Buena Vista, a daughter of the late Robert Page and Mary Frances (Sale) Page Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Franklin Lackey, whom she married on November 13, 1920. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ralph Davidson and Edith McClung Lackey, Lexington; a sister, Mrs. Mary Page Rice, Williamsburg; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Cheryl and Vern Fairchilds Jr.; a great-grandson and great-granddaughter-in-law, Page and Holly Fairchilds, both of Bridgewater; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted in the Williams Funeral Service Chapel 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 1996, with the Rev. Dr. Woodward D. Morriss Jr. and Chaplain Robert K. Wilson officiating. MORGAN, William Lester, 56, of Radford, died Saturday, December 30, 1995, in a Radford hospital. Surviving are two daughters, Debbie Morgan of Christiansburg, and Donna and her husband Rich Atkins of Dublin; a son, David Morgan of Charlotte, N.C.; his father and mother, John C. Morgan Sr. and Florence Wood Morgan of Riner; a brother, John Curtis Morgan Jr. of Minco, Okla.; a sister, Katie M. PILSON, Anita Lavinder, 58, of 220 Plantation Dr., Collinsville, died Saturday, December 30, 1995 in Memor ial Hospital, Martinsville-Henry County. She was born October 7, 1937 in Rocky Mount, Va. to Leona Lavinder Parrish and the late A. M. Lavinder. She was a retired employee of Forest Park Country Club and attended First Presbyterian Church, Martinsville. Survivors include her mother, Leona Lavinder Parrish, Hot Springs, Arkansas; two daughters, Ms. Lynn News, Richmond, Mrs. William (Cindy) Nease, Martinsville; two sons, Dick Pilson, Collinsville, Barry E. RILEY, Michael K., 34, of Lurich, died Saturday, December 30, 1995. He was born September 6, 1961, at Pearisburg, and was the son of Edward L. Riley of Peterstown, W.Va., and the late Claudia E. Davis Riley. He was a student at New River Community College. He is survived by two brothers, Jerry Steele of Vi rginia Beach and Roger Dillon of Waverly, and four aunts, Louise Witt of Indianapolis, Ind., Cathleen Butler of Columbia, S.C., and Doris Davis and Mae Thomas of Lurich. ROBERTS, Bessie M., 87, of 106 Woody Circle, Bassett, departed this walk of life on Saturday, December 30, 1995, at the Martinsville Convalescent Center. She was born in Patrick County on December 3, 1908, to the late Charles M. and Mattie J. Martin Martin. She retired from Sales Knitting Company after 18 years of service, and was a member of Providence United Methodist Church at Patrick Springs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Clyde Roberts; a son, Nash Roberts, and a sister, Angie Roberts. She is survived by two brothers, Nerchel L. Martin of Fieldale and Cam Roberts of Collinsville; a sister, Bedie Turner of Fieldale; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Tomlinson Funeral Home Chapel, Ridgeway, with the Rev. Albert Robertson officiating. Burial will be in the Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery, Patrick Springs. SHEPHERD, James Thomas Jr., 87, of Roanoke, formerly of Buena Vista, Va., died Friday, December 29, 1995. He was born in Suffolk,Va., November 24, 1908 and attended Suffolk High School, having graduated in 1926 as his class Salutatorian and graduated from VPI in 1931 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Mr. Shepherd was employed by the Virginia Department of Highways as a Civil Engineer and later as First Lieutenant in the CCC. Following this, he was Construction Superintendant in the Army Engineers until accepting employment with the Norfolk & Western Railway Company. He held various and supervisory positions until retirement in Buena Vista in 1973. He was active in Masonry, having the York Rite and the Scottish Rite and was also a Shriner. He had been Past Master of his lodge, High Priest of his Chapter and Commander of the Commandery of the Knights of Templars. He was awarded the honorary degrees of Thrice Illustrious Master, Annointed High Priest, and highest of all, the rarely attained degree of Knight York Cross of Honor. Mr. Shepherd assisted his wife in organizing the Rockbridge Chapter of O. E. S. and was Worthy Patron of the same. He was active in various capacities in St. John's United Methodist Church of Buena Vista, where he taught Sunday School for many years. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Ruckman Shepherd, Roanoke; one nephew an d his family, Dr. J. M. Shepherd, Yorktown, Va.; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rev. and Mrs. Lee V. Ruckman Jr., Lexington; a niece, Mrs. Karen Pearce and her family of Washington, D.C. and a nephew, L. Van Ruckman III and his family of Williamsburg. Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 1996 in the Ruckman Family Plot in Hillcrest Cemetery, White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., with the Rev. Edward Johnson officiating. A memorial service will be conducted 4 p.m. Sunday, January 14, 1996 at the Roanoke United Methodist Home, 1009 Old Country Club Road, N.W., Roanoke, Va. SLUSHER, Guy Howard, 65, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, December 31, 1995. He was an engineer with Norfolk and Western, and a member of Melrose Masonic Lodge #139, the Scottish Rite Bodies, Kazim Temple, United Transportation Union, and was a deacon at First Church of the Brethren. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Kilby Slusher; a son and daughter-in-law, Gregory Alan and Nina Bean Slusher; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen S. and Mitch Wade, and Beth and David Simmons; five grandchildren, Melissa and Freddie Hutchins, Gregory Alan Slusher Jr., Elizabeth Slusher and John Howard Simmons, and two brothers, Hugh Slusher and Marvin Slusher. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 1996, at Oakey's North Chapel, with the Rev. David R. Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. SMITH, Elbert Otis, 78, of 4600 Cartwright Lane, Covington, died Saturday, December 30, 1995, at his residence. He was born November 1, 1917, in Craig County, the son of the late James Coleman and Charlotte Lucy Ja ne Ruble Smith. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Virginia Whanger Smith of Covington; four sons, L. C. Smith of Wilmington, Del., Leighton E. Smith and L. Doug Smith of Covington, and Larry R. Smith of Summerville, N.C.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Elwood and Violet Hall; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. June Martin of Covington and Mrs. Jean Ross of Baltimore, Md., and a brother-in-law, Wesley Whanger of Lexington. SPECK, Alexander, (``Bud""), 85, of Rt. 3, Penhook, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 30, 1995 at 5:20 p.m. Born October 14, 1910 in Bedford County, he was the son of the late James P. Speck and Dora Hudson Speck. He was a retired businessman in the Penhook Community for most of his life. He attended Sandy Level Baptist Church. Mr. Speck was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Larry Walker of Penhook, and a granddaughter, Wendy Dawn Moore of Gretna. He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-five years, Katherine Hamlett Speck, of the residence; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gene Dudley, Danville, Barry and Connie Speck, Penhook, and Keith and Freda Speck, Penhook; six daughters and five sons-in-law, Sylvia and Lowell David, Penhook, Carolyn Walker, Penhook, Wanda and Troy Cook, Penhook, Brenda and Dickie Perdue, Gretna, Sharon and Davis Moore, Gretna and Trudy and Vernon Hedrick, Chatham; 24 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a beloved minister and faithful friend, Rev. Gene Ashworth and wife, Peggy. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at the Sandy Level Baptist Church by the Rev. Gene Ashworth and the Rev. A. A. Blanks. TEAFORD, Bobby Allen, 54, of Eagle Rock, passed away Sunday, December 31, 1995 at his home. He was a member of the Eagle Rock Baptist Church and was employed by Harmon Ceiling & Partition Company of Roanoke. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Essie Zell Teaford, brothers, Gordon, Leroy, Bi ll and Kenneth, sister, Julia Teaford Dudding. Surviving are sisters, Claudine Barger, Fincastle, Hattie Rogers, Vinton, Dorothy Watkins, Natural Bridge Station, Betty Miller of Florida; brother, Bernard M. Teaford, Clifton Forge; and a number of nieces and nephews. VASSIE, Mary Cecelia, 81, of Roanoke, died Saturday, December 31, 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Blaze Vassie. She was a member of the Third Order of Dominican. She is survived by her son, George DiGregorio; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Lotz Roanoke Chapel. VAUGHAN, W. Holt, 68, of Gainesville, Fla., formerly of Roanoke, Va., died Saturday, December 30, 1995, at his residence. Born in Roanoke, he was graduated from Jefferson High School, and attended Roanoke College and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. A U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, he moved from Roanoke to Gainesville in 1973. He retired as Vice President and Regional Manager of the Florida Division of Double Envelope Company. He was a member of Envelope Manufacturers Association of America, Gainesville Chamber of Commerce, Gator Boosters, Gainesville Amateur Radio Society, Elks Lodge #990 of Gainesville and Northwest Baptist Church of Gainesville. He is survived by his wife, Iris Sanford Vaughan of Gainesville; a son, Keith Hunter Vaughan of Winter Haven, Fla.; two brothers, George Ashton Vaughan of Salem, Va., and Frank A. Vaughan of Atlanta, Ga., and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Malcolm Sills Vaughan and Walter Linwood Vaughan, and two sisters, Florence Vaughan Davis and Elsie Vaughan Smith. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, 1996, at Northwest Baptist Church in Gainesville. WILLIAMS, Glenna Eugenia Coggeshall, 60, of Blue Ridge, died Friday, December 29, 1995, at her home. She was an employee of RPS Teleservice Center Inc. and a member of the St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Surviving are her husband, Joseph A. Williams; a daughter, Toni-Anne Williams of Blue Ridge; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert L. and Patricia J. Beck of Blue Springs, Mo.; two grandchildren, Joey and Leo Beck; two sisters, Helen L. Scott of Des Moines, Iowa, and Tommalee DeVos of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three brothers, Freddie J. Coggeshell of Spokane, Wash., Paul E. Coggeshell of Milo, Iowa, and Glenn Coggeshell II of Everett, Wash., and a number of nieces and nephews. A Christian vigil service will be held at Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 6 p.m. Monday. A funeral mass will be held at St. Andrew's Catholic Church at 1 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Fr. Randy Rule officiating. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
