MORE SIGNS OF VITALITY

The town of Pulaski has dressed up its welcome signs. Three new signs erected this month are more in keeping with the image Pulaski wants to maintain, and town officials have been trying to get them up and in place for quite a while. The job finally fell to the town's year-old Economic Development Board, which moved the project from its on-hold status to completion this month. The signs, showing the Old Pulaski County Courthouse bell tower, were designed free of charge by Robert Henderson, of The Henderson Group/Visual Communications. They were manufactured by Sign Design Inc. of Roanoke, which has made signs for some 20 other Southwest Virginia communities. Two 8- by 8-foot signs now welcome motorists entering Pulaski by U.S. 11 or Virginia 99, while a 6- by 6-foot sign is in place at the Bob White Boulevard entrance. Pulaski has reinvigorated its downtown business section and actively promoted its shops and business as a travel destination in recent years, but town officials worried that its aged and worn welcome signs were out of keeping with that image. Now, they match.
