AUTOPSY SHOWS MAN WAS BEATEN NO SUSPECTS YET IN MECHANIC'S DEATH

A mechanic whose body was found in a Roanoke County garage had been beaten to death, police said Wednesday, but an investigation has yet to produce any suspects.

An autopsy conducted Wednesday determined that Christopher Lee Wilson, 26, died from a blow to the head with a blunt object, according to Capt. Ray Lavinder of the Roanoke County Police Department.

An employee arriving at work about 7 a.m. Tuesday found Wilson's body on the floor of the garage area of General Imports Sales & Service in the 3200 block of Brambleton Avenue in Southwest Roanoke County.

Lavinder said police have few leads. "We really don't have any suspects at this point," he said. "I wish we did have a direction in which we could go."

No murder weapon was found at the scene. The autopsy determined that the fatal blow most likely was delivered with a heavy, hard object such as a club or piece of metal, Lavinder said.

There were no obvious signs of a struggle in the area where Wilson's body was found, and police have found no indication of forced entry into the building.

Wilson lived in the Botetourt County community of Blue Ridge. It was not clear how long his body had been in the garage, which was closed on Sunday and Monday.

Lavinder said police are following up on telephone calls they have received about the case, and have collected evidence from the crime scene for analysis by forensic experts.
