Guard Kristen Smith scored a game-high 17 points and dished out six assists Wednesday night to lead Cave Spring to a 70-42 victory over Franklin County in high school girls' basketball.
When not scoring herself, Smith passed to frontcourt teammates Lisa Bryan, Cheryl Rhodes and Jaclyn Banks as the Knights (6-2 overall, 3-0 Roanoke Valley District) seized control early and pulled away in the second half.
Bryan had 13 points, Rhodes had 10 and Banks contributed nine for Cave Spring.
Nine of Smith's points came in the third quarter, when the Knights took control for good.
Penny Claybourne was the leading scorer for Franklin County (1-7, 0-3) with 15.

Katrina Williams scored 12 of her 14 points in the first half as the Cougars (5-3, 3-0) opened a 44-12 halftime lead.
Patrick Henry (0-7, 0-3) was led by Keeda Hale, who scored 12.

Grace Christian Academy 35, Roanoke Catholic 31: The Celtics could not hold down Krista Summers in the second half, and her 10 points in the fourth quarter allowed Grace Christian to rally for a Blue Ridge Conference victory in Staunton.
Summers scored 16 of her game-high 22 points in the second half, most coming on inside shots.
Roanoke Catholic (3-4, 3-1) had taken a 26-22 lead by making six of eight shots in the third quarter, but the Celtics managed only five points in the final period.
Whitney Campbell and Christy Hinman scored 10 points each to lead the Celtics. Grace Christian is 7-2, 4-2.
