SPIRITUALITY CLASSES

Pathways to Prosperity, a seminar to help adults overcome debt, illness and negative attitudes, will be held Jan. 21 from 2-5 p.m. at Unity of Roanoke Valley, 3300 Green Ridge Road. Carla Golden and Bob Uhlar, who have traveled internationally teaching Unity principles, will lead the seminar. They were previously in the journalism and communication consulting fields.

The seminar is free, although an offering will be taken. Call 562-2200 for more information.

First Hope, a series of classes in which principles of Christianity are used to help adults to a better balanced spiritual and emotional life, will begin Sunday at the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church in downtown Roanoke. The topics will include: First Place: A Christ-Centered Health Program; Understanding Co-Dependency; Seasonal Depression; and Coping With My Stress. Some classes continue for several weeks; others have a single session. Call 224-3378 for registration and more information.

Green Ridge Baptist Church, 5521 Green Ridge Road, will have a five-week study on the Book of Amos from the Old Testament beginning Sunday from 7-8 p.m., taught by the Rev. J. Michael Palmer, pastor. Classes also will be available for children and youth. Call 562-0225 for more information.

West Salem Baptist Church, 500 Turner Road, will begin a series of Sunday night adult classes intended to apply scriptural principles to marriage, financial freedom, personal evangelism and prayer/devotional life Jan. 14 from 6-7. CHURCH PEOPLE

The Rev. R. Paul Henrickson, a staff member of Roanoke College for 13 years, has received the college's Distinguished Service Award. Henrickson has been both associate chaplain and chaplain of the Lutheran-affiliated school in Salem.

The Rev. David R. Miller, pastor of First Church of the Brethren, will be in Jerusalem Jan. 22-27 at an ecumenical conference seeking assurance that Christians will be given full access to holy places there, along with Jews and Muslims. Miller was a Brethren Volunteer Service worker in Jerusalem nine years ago and visited the city again in 1991.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Burning of the Greens, a traditional ceremony to mark the end of the church season of Christmas, will take place Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Colonial Presbyterian Church, 3550 Poplar Drive S.W.

MUSICAL EVENTS

Glenvar Baptist Church, 4804 Stanley Farm Road, Salem, will present the Joy Quartet from Pensacola (Fla.) Christian College Monday at 7 p.m. The quartet is one of eight traveling groups sent out annually by the college to engage in musical evangelism and promote the school's program.
