Dominick Millner, an All-America long jumper at the University of Florida, has been chosen the Male Athlete of the Year by the Commonwealth Games of Virginia.
Millner, a former track and field standout at William Fleming, set State Games records in both the long jump (25 feet, 7 inches) and the 200-meter dash (22.2 seconds).
As a freshman at Florida, Millner placed third at the Southeastern Conference meet by leaping 25-103/4, and was fourth at the NCAA meet. He also finished second while representing the United States in the Junior Pan Am Games in Santiago, Chile.
Millner and Kathy Roberts, the female award recipient from Alexandria, were honored by Gov. George Allen in a private ceremony on Dec.21.
