CALDWELL, Elsie Hasseltine, (``Hassie''), 68, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, January 6, 1996 at her home. She was a member of Troutville Baptist Church and retired from McKesson-Robins, after more than 35 years of service. Surviving are her sisters, Janie C. Carr, Kathryn C. Johnson, both of Roanoke; niece, Diane C. Hilborn, Roanoke; nephew, Dr. Brent M. Johnson, Roanoke; three great-nieces; and three great nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday at Oakey's North Chapel by Dr. E. Ray Frazier and Dr. Darryl G. Crim. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Plasterco United Methodist Church in Saltville. CAVANAGH, Lynda Lee, 77, of Lexington, died Saturday, January 6, 1996. She was born in Beaumont, Texas on January 20, 1918. She was the daughter of the late Clyde Lamar Renfro and Mable Lee Turner, and the stepdaughter of W. O. Turner. She was the widow of William F. Cavanagh Jr. She is survive d by three daughters, Donna Lee Young of Grandview, Mo.; Melou Peigari of Lexington, Denise Terzian of Washingtonville, N.Y.; one son, William F. Cavanagh III of Glendale, Calif; eleven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, January 10 at 2 p.m. at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with the Rev. CLARK, June Robertson, 64, of Rt. 4, Stuart, died Sunday, January 7, 1996 at her home. She was born in Roanoke, March 13, 1931, daughter of the late Theron E. Robertsdon and the late Juanita Evelyn Mauck Robertson. She was retired from the Patrick County Department of Social Services and was a member of the Smith River Rescue Squad. She is survived by her husband, William (Bill) Clark of the home; two sons, Larry Clark of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Jim Clark of Woolwine; one daughter, Joy C. Martin of Stuart and six grandchildren. She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late Charles Ray and Anne Grubb Simmerman. She was a a member of the Anchor of Hope Presbyterian Church and the Extension Homemakers Club. She is survived by her husband, John E. Danner, Sr. of the home; three sons, John Edward Danner Jr. of Wilkesboro, N.C., David R. Danner of Max Meadows, Harry W. Danner of Wytheville; four grandchildren, Kimberly Danner Musser of Staunton, Ray Danner of Max Meadows, Brian E. Danner of Pilot Mountain, N.C., Katie Danner of Wytheville; one great-grandson, Justin Tyler Musser of Staunton. GORDON, Evelyn N., 91, of Blacksburg, died Monday, January 8, 1996. Survivors include her son, Ronald S. Gordon and daughter-in-law, Joan C. Gordon of Blacksburg; five grandchildren, Mary C. Gordon and Edie A. Gordon, both of Salt Lake City, Utah, William J. Gordon, Salem, Oregon, Sarah H. Gordon, Bolder, Colorado, and Kate L. Gordon, Portland, Maine. Mrs. Gordon was born in Crockett, California on September 26, 1904, to the late Katheryn and Henry Benson, and was the remaining survivor of eight brothers and sisters. She was married to the late Leonard Nelson and subsequently married to the late C. H. Gordon. Mrs. Gordon was a professional business woman, specializing in bookkeeping and accounting for more than forty years in the San Francisco area; with California Notion and Toy and Berven Carpet Corporation, both in the San Francisco Bay area; worked many years for the University of California Extension Service in Berkley, where she lived most of her adult life. In 1985 she moved to Salt Lake City to be with her son's family She moved to Blacksburg, Virginia in 1991, where she was a resident of Showalter in Warm Heath. Interment will be in Sunset View Cemetery Berkely, California. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home.
HALL, Lois C., 83, of Marion, widow of Frank Hall, died Sunday, January 7, 1996 in Smyth County Community Hospital She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Marion H. Morris of Silver Springs, Md.; one son, Mr. Herman Eugene Hall of Germantown, Md .; two sisters, Mrs. Ida H. Blevins and Mrs. Laura H. Jones, both of Marion; one brother, Mr. Charles H. Hutton, Marion; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Also survived by several nieces and nephews who were very special to her. HEATON, Ruth Stowers, 74, of Collinsville, died Sunday, January 7, 1996 at her home on 109 Ridge Road, Collinsville. Born in Bland County January 23, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Clara Walters and Wiley Hicks Stowers. She was the owner of Heaton Specialities since 1980, having formerly been employed at Hercules Powder Co. and Bassett Printing Co. She was the Valedictorian of her class at Rocky Gap High SchooL, and was a graduate of Perry Business School and West Virginia Business College. A member of Smith Memorial United Methodist Church since 1963, she had served as financial secretary, parsonage chairman, member of the Administrative Board, named Woman Of The Year in 1984 by the church, was a member of the Charles Wesley Sunday School Class, was flower chairman and active member of United Methodist Women; had been active in Cub Scouting as a den mother; was a member of Collinsville Home Demonstration Club; member and past president of both Collinsville Garden Club and Patrick Henry Rose Society; member of American Rose Society; was designated a Life Consulting Rosarian and an accredited rose judge. Surviving are her husband, George L. Heaton Sr. of the home; daughter, Joy Heaton Taylor of Winterville, N.C.; sons, George L. Heaton Jr. of Clearwater, Fla., Larry A. Heaton of Collinsville; sisters, Beulah S. Fox of Rich Creek, Evelyn S. Royer of Poway, Calif., Phyllis S. Fletcher of Dayton, Ohio; brothers, James W. Stowers of Princeton, West Va., Donald L. Stowers of Christiansburg; four grandch ildren, Daniel G. Heaton and Matt Heaton of Collinsville, and Ginny Taylor and Thomas Taylor of Winterville, N.C. HIGGINBOTHAM, Albert Sidney, Jr. 81, of Tazewell, Va., died Monday, January 8, 1996, at Dogwood Estates. A native of Tazewell, Va. He was a son of the late A. Sidney and Eugenie Dickenson Higginbotham. He was the retired owner of Higginbotham Insurance Agency of Tazewell, Va. He was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church in Tazewell, Va. and the Tazewell Lions Club. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Hortense Latimer; and one brother, Walter D. Higginbotham. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Rose H. Matthews of Eden, N.C.; three nieces, Mrs. Ann Purdy and Mrs. Roslyn Black both of Gainsville, Ga.; and Mrs. Sidney Asbury of Nashville, Tenn.; several great-nieces. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 1996 at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, Va. with Dr. Tom Conley officiating. A memorial service service will be held at a later date.
