CHRISTIAN MAKES ECHL ALL-STAR TEAM

Rookie Tim Christian was the only Roanoke Express player selected to play in the East Coast Hockey League All-Star Game, the league office announced Tuesday.

Christian, a 6-foot, 180-pound forward from Grand Rapids, Mich., made the 17-player North squad as a right wing in a vote of league coaches and media representatives. His 19 goals are the second-most for the Express.

The ECHL All-Star Game will be played at 7 p.m. Jan.23 at the Tallahassee (Fla.) Civic Center. The game will be televised by Home Team Sports on a tape-delayed basis at 4 p.m. Jan.24.

Toledo led the league with five players selected to the North squad, which will be coached by Richmond's Roy Sommer.

Louisville's Alain Morissette will start in goal for the North. Other starters are defensemen Aaron Boh of Columbus and Steve Lingren of Dayton; Toledo's Rick Judson as left wing; Johnstown's Trevor Jobe at center; and Erie's Glenn Stewart at right wing.

Louisiana and Nashville each had three players on the South squad. Starting for the South will be former Express goalie Brian Schoen, now with Louisiana; Louisiana's Chris Valicevic and Mobile's Dave Craievich on defense; Nashville's Hugo Belanger at left wing; Knoxville's Richard Enga at center; and Birmingham's Mike Latendresse at right wing.
