VIRGINIA NOW ELIGIBLE FOR DISASTER AID

President Clinton on Saturday added Virginia and five other states to the list of federal disaster areas because of last week's heavy snows.

Federal funds may be used for emergency snow removal, said James L. Witt, director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The president's declaration allows the states and localities to apply for reimbursement of 75 percent of the costs for equipment, contracts and personnel overtime required to clear one lane in each direction along snow emergency routes and other routes, Witt said.

The other states in Clinton's declaration Saturday were Kentucky, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
