CELEBRATIONS - ANNIVERSARIES

Golden Anniversary

1946 - 1996

The Rev. and Mrs. Orvin White will celebrate their ``Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary'' by renewing their vows on January 20, 1996 at 2:00 in the afternoon at the Parkway Wesleyan Church, in Roanoke. The celebration will be hosted by their daughters, Ina Davis, Katrina Cole and their families. A reception will follow in the Family Life Center.

Orvin served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and upon returning home, married the former Laura Colleene Richardson. Orvin drove for Associated Transport, Hennis Freight Lines and Burlington Industries before beginning his work in the field of ministry for the Brethren In Christ Church. He attended Messiah College in Grantham, Pennsylvania.

In the thirty two years of their ministry they leave two great accomplishments. Planting of new churches in Massillon, Ohio, Roanoke, Virginia and Dublin, Virginia, Planting of four southern preachers, Woody and Kim Dalton, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Dr. James and Jaeron DeBow, Hillsville, Virginia, Calvin and Ann Hamblin, Massillon, Ohio, and Stewart and Martha Kelly of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

Rev. White continues to minister when called upon but officially retired in 1988. He drives for Abbott Charter part time. Mrs. White is employed at Lewis Gale Clinic. They are both natives of Carroll County, and presently reside in the Blue Ridge area of Roanoke, Virginia. Honeycutt anniversary

Horace L. and Melca Taylor Honeycutt, of Radford, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on December 30, 1995. A reception honoring the couple was held at Custom Catering in Blacksburg, hosted by their son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Margaret Honeycutt of Will iamsburg.

They were married on December 26, 1945 in the Woodlawn Methodist Church , Woodlawn, Virginia, and have lived in Radford for the past 35 years. Horace is retired from Appalachian Power Company with 35 years of service. Melca is retired from Radford University with 26 years of service.

Congratulations to George and Margaret Lester on their 50th wedding anniversary January 9th, 1996. The happy couple will celebrate quietly with their children and grandchildren at a luncheon in their honor on Sunday January 14th, 1996. Nininger anniversary

Charles and Gladys Nininger recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. They were married on December 7, 1940, in Mountain City, Tennessee. Mr. Nininger is retired as Manager-Divisions of the Norfolk Southern Corp. Mrs. Nininger is the former Gladys M. Aker and is a homemaker. they have a daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Melvin Mayfield, who provided a celebration of this occasion with a splendid dinner at their home just prior to Norma's parents extended trip to Disney World Palmer anniversary

Sgt. Major and Mrs. Lionel W. ``Bill'' Palmer celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on January 14, 1996, with a reception and dinner held in their honor at the Bailiwick Inn, Fairfax, Va. The honored couple was married on January 13, 1946, aboard the Naval Air Station at Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The bride is the former Susan Waldron of Dania, Florida. Sgt. Major Palmer served with distinction in the United States Marine Corps; he retired after 24 years of service to his country. Sgt. Major and Mrs. Palmer currently reside in Roanoke, Virginia. In attendance at the celebration in Fairfax were their children, James E. Palmer of Gainesville, Va., Steven W. Palmer of Boones Mill, Va., W. Douglas Palmer of Greensboro, N. C., and John L. Palmer of Keller, Texas, and their spouses. Their six grandchildren also attended the event.
