CHANDLER, Ruth Hanks, 73, of Christiansburg, died Saturday, January 13, 1996, in Richfield Nursing Center, Salem. The widow of Oakley M. Chandler Jr., she is survived by one son a nd daughter-in-law, Larry M. and Ann Chandler; one daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis C. and Jimmy Williams; four grandsons, Tony Sarver Jr., Scott Chandler, Terry Williams and Jeremy Williams; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, P. F. Hanks Jr. and Edward L. Hanks, all of Christiansburg; three sisters, Helen Ireland of Jacksonville, Fla., Kate Board of Lutz, Fla., and Faye Worrell of Sanford, Fla., and a special sister-in-law, Marrietta Hanks of Christiansburg. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, January 15, at the Park United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Mark Christian. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery. COBB, Anne Judson Goode, 86, of Radford, daughter of the late Alwida Jane Driskall and Robert Henry Goode, died Friday, January 12, 1996 in a Radford hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Dickenson Cobb Jr.. She was a resident of Arlington, Va. for over 30 years. She then retired to Blacksburg,Va. for the past 20 years and was a resident of Showalter Center at Warm Hearth Village for the past seven years, serving on various retirement center committees. For the past two months, she resided at Fairlawn Manor Retirement Home in Radford. She was a member of Northminster Baptist Church in Richmond, Va. She was a concert vocalist in Virginia during the 1920's and 1930's. She also did extensive volunteer work in the Arlington, Va. public school system. Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Dickenson Cobb III, Raleigh, N.C., Robert Goode Cobb, Dublin; five grandchildren, Gordon D. Cobb, Fairfax, Catherine A. Cobb, Burbank, Calif., Emily A. Cobb, Raleigh, N.C., Iain R. Cobb and Alexander K. Cobb, both of Dublin; one great-grandchild, Brittany L. Cobb, Fairfax. A family graveside service will be held at 12 noon Tuesday at the Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an individual church or to a favorite charity. GREEN, Andrew Jackson, (``Jack""), 69, of Route 1, Narrows, died Saturday evening, January 13, 1996 in the Montgomery Regional Hospital, Blacksburg, Va. A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born at Kimballton, Va. on April 3, 1927 and was the son of the late Leslie and Alice Fields Green. He was a veteran of World War II, where he received the Victory Medal and a Purple Heart. He was a retired machine operator for the Norfolk-Southern Railroad Company. He was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Epling Green; five sons and their wives, Larry and Susan Green, Charlottesville, Gary and Lina Green, Blacksburg, Lonnie and Debbie Green, David and Michelle Green, all of Narrows, Robert and Dawn Green, Rock, W. Va.; daughters, Alice and Jeff Weddle, Moneta and Drema Green, Sommerville, Mass.; seven brothers, John Green, Narrows, Pat Green, Roanoke, Roy Green, Great Falls, Montana, Bill Green, Eggleston, Isaac Green, Pearisburg, Vivan Green, Rich Creek, Leslie Green, Blacksburg; three sisters, Mary Martin, Narrows, Nellie Geralds, Bedford, Ann Breeden, Eggleston; and a granddaughter, Jessica Ryan Green, Narrows. KENT, David Cloyd, 87, of 44 7th Street, N.E., Pulaski, passed away Friday, January 12, 1996, in Pulaski Community Hospital. Born on April 5, 1908, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Dr. James Ligon Kent, physician, and Annie Donoho Bayliss Kent, artist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Combs Kent. He was a well-known commercial and portrait photographer, furniture designer and artist. He attended Hampden-Sydney College and Clarence White School of Photography in New York City. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army in the 2526th Service Unit, the official Photo Mail Section in the Pentagon, and news photographer for the Southwest Times. He was past president of Virginia Professional Photographers Association and the Rotary Club. He is survived by one sister, Margo Kent, a well-known photographer and portrait artist, of Woodstock. There will be no service. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Sunday at Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bob White Blvd., Pulaski, where friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday. McDANIEL, John Alexander, of Buena Vista, was born January 28, 1925, and passed away Saturday, January 13, 1996. John was an honored serviceman during both World War II and the Korean War. John was a kind, generous and warm-hearted gentleman who never knew a stranger. He never turned down a friend's request for help. He was a builder, a jack-of-all-trades and a master of none. John was a wonderful father. He is survived by his wife and the mother of his children, Essie H. He is survivied by his wife, Helen Surface; so ns and daughters-in-law, Steven Kelly Surface, Frank and Leisa Surface, Jamie and Jan Surface; grandchildren, Jennifer Watts, Andy Surface, Emily Surface, Lara Surface, Carter Surface; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Bernard Sizemore; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Tootsie Surface, John and Jean Surface, Charles and Kay Surface; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 16, 1996 at Bethel Baptist Church, Salem, Va., with the Rev. R. Stuart Carlton officiating. A chapel service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at Roselawn Chapel, Princeton, W.Va. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Oakey's North Chapel.

TROSPER, Evangeline Wood, (``Vannie"") 94, of Salem, died Saturday, January 13, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, Courtney Scott Trosper. Born in Botetourt County, she graduated from New Castle High School and in 1921, graduated from National Business College in Roanoke. Mrs. Trosper lived most of her life in Beckley, W. Va. and in the Salem area. She was a long-time member of the Roanoke County Woman's Club, where she served in several official capacities and was the chaplain for many years. She was also a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Salem. During her life, she devoted much of her time to music. She was a pianist to several dancing schools and entertained at the Veteran's Hospital, as well as at local nursing homes. She was active in the church choir for many years. Mrs. Trosper had also authored two books of poetry: Summer Snow and Morning Glint and Sunset Hues. She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Barnett of Salem and Barbara Braithwaite of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren, Edward Barnett of Hampton, Linda Smith of Virginia Beach and Bridget Braithwaite of Dallas, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Sharon and Wade Smith of Virginia Beach, Brian Barnett of Hampton; one brother, Wayne Wood of San Anselmo, Calif.; two sisters, Virginia Foster of Rockville, Md. and Carrie Weaver of Jacksonville, Fla. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 16, 1996, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Salem, with Dr. Robert T. Copenhaver officiating. Interment will be in Mount Union Cemetery in Botetourt County. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salem Rescue Squad, 201 S. Broad St., Salem, Va. 24153 or the Roanoke County Woman's Club, 1636 Conehurst B lvd., Salem, Va. 24153. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem.
