Got a yen to run a marathon, but you're not in shape for it? The Leukemia Society of America, Virginia chapter, is looking for you.
The leukemia group wants to sponsors runners in the July 14 San Francisco Marathon. It will pay a competitor's travel and lodging expenses for the race if the runner will agree to raise money for leukemia research. The society will provide coaches to help a first-time runner or a veteran get trained for the marathon.
The charity-exercise program, which began in 1987, is called Team in Training. The idea behind it is that a runner represents a patient who can't run.
Persons who are interested in learning more about the Team in Training effort are invited to an information meeting and complimentary dinner Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the Oliver Garden at 6:30 p.m. To sign up for the dinner or to discuss the program, call Tammy Butler, coordinator, at 1-800-866-4483.
