Bill Foster, Tech's coach, was thrilled for his team.
``It's great for the young men,'' Foster said. ``It's nice because they've accomplished something that's never been accomplished at Virginia Tech. I'm happy for the players and our fans. I think it's a sign we've got the program headed back in the right direction.''
Massachusetts, an A-10 foe that visits Blacksburg on Feb.17, remained atop the poll, followed by Kentucky, Cincinnati, Kansas and Connecticut.
Wake Forest jumped two spots to No.6, followed by Villanova, Georgetown, Memphis and North Carolina.
