ASH, Helen Eastwood, 85, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, January 14, 1996. Helen was a member of Belmont Christian Church, and had sung in the church choir for over 60 years. She was a retired cafeteria worker from the Roanoke City Schools, and was preceded in death by her husband, John David Ash. Surviving are two stepdaughters, Virginia Hall and her husband, Clarence, Bedford, Nancy Anderson, Sacramento, Calif.; two stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; three stepgreat-great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Lois G. Bradley, Roanoke. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's Vinton Chapel Wednesday, January 17, 1996, 1 p.m., with the Rev. W. Michael Barnes officiating. Interment in Sherwood Memorial Park. ATKINS, Waddy C., 85, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on S unday afternoon, January 14, 1996. He was a member at Belmont United Methodist Church, and the retired owner of Riverside Drive-In Theater (Roanoke), and Lee-Hi Drive-In Theater (Lexington). Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Virginia F. Atkins; a son and daughter-in-law, Earle and Marcelene Atkins; two grandsons and their wives, David and Jayne Atkins, Robert and Nancy Atkins; a great-granddaughter, Haley Elizabeth Atkins; a great-grandson, Robert Brandon Atkins; a sister, Thelma Anderson; a sister-in-law, Ethel Atkins; and a niece, Mary Anne Ashbrook, all of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted from the cryptside, Sherwood Burial Park, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Sam McPhail officiating. BARTON, Euell (``Slippery""), 79, of Hardy, died Sunday, January 14, 1996. He was a Deacon and Trustee of White Rock Baptist Church for many years. He was retired from Rainbow Forest Water Corporation. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen M. She was an employee of New River Castings. CREASEY, Robert B., 73, of Roanoke, died Saturday, January 13, 1996, in a Salem Hospital. Mr. Creasey was a native of West Virginia, a retired Marine who served in World War II and the Korean conflict. After retirement, he was a Food Service Director at the VA Hospital in Richmond and a member of The Southview United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Lelia Margar et Creasey; son and daughter-in-law, Gary L. and Pat, Bloomington, Ill; grandsons, Zachary and Alexander; three nephews; one niece; and several cousins. SHARITZ, Willard S., 88, of Wytheville, died Monday, January 15, 1996 at Evansham Manor. He was born in Wythe County, the Fairview Community, the son of the late Henry Lee Sharitz and Cynthia Brown Sharitz. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for more than 60 years, where he was active in opening Sunday School class, and served as tenor in the choir. Mr. Sharitz was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II and a life member of the Wytheville VFW Post, and a life member of the Wytheville Lions Club. He was a member of the Wytheville Moose Lodge and a charter member of the Wythe County Historical Society. He was a retired salesman for the Merita Bread Company. He is survived by his wife, Leona Allison Sharitz, of the home; numerous nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Harlan Clemons, Mrs. Virgie Bralley, Talmadge Sharitz, Ms. Jean Cook, all of Wytheville; two special friends, Marsha Jones and Tim Cox, both of Wytheville. TURNER, James Coleman, ""J.C.,"" 30, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 14, 1996. He was born on Monday, February 23, 1965 in Staunton, Va. where he grew up at 504 College Circle then later moved to Roanoke, where he graduated from William Byrd High School. He held office of an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. J.C. worked as a professional tractor trailer truck driver for Grand Piano and Furniture Company in Roanoke. J.C. was a loving and unselfish person who touched the lives of everyone he came into contact with. He appreciated and loved those people whose lives intertwined with his smiles, hugs, and laughter. J.C. will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. VENABLE, Estelle Lowry, of Bedford, passed away January 14, 1996 at the Bedford Memorial Hospital. WATKINS, Elsie Anne Rose, ""Mee-Maw,"" 84, of Vinton, died Monday, January 15, 1996. She was a member of the Garden City Baptist Church, and was predeceased by her husband, John W. Watkins, a daughter, Barbara Jean Starkey, a granddaughter, Stephanie Jones, and a great-grandson, Jeremiah Duncan. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert L. and Mary Jo Watkins, Chesterfield, Bruce W. and Linda B. Watkins, Roanoke; two daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte W. and Lawrence R. Brown, Vinton, Diane W. and Don McCaskill, Roanoke; son-in-law, Posey L. Starkey, Marietta, Ga.; ten grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 18, 1996, with the Rev. Don McCaskill and the Rev. Posey L. Starkey officiating. WELCH, Mildred Irene Moseley, 75, of Buchanan, died Sunday, January 7, 1996. She was preceded in death by her b rother, Roy Moseley. Survivors include her husband, Marion Allen Welch; daughters and sons-in-law, Louise and Henry Thomasson of Buchanan, Faye Boley of Toms Brook, Patsy and Michael Johns of Buchanan, and Mary and Raymond Sparks of Monroe; sons and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Dorothy Welch, and Gayle Welch of Buchanan; brothers, Bernice Moseley, Eugene Moseley, Allen Moseley, Vernon Moseley and Buford Moseley of Buchanan; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and three stepgreat-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wedneday, January 17, 1996, at 11 a.m. in Bible Believing Baptist Church, with the Rev. Marshall Cochran officiating. WHEATON, Walter Lewis Jr., of Roanoke, departed this lif e on Monday, January 15, 1996 in a local hospital. He was the son of the late Walter Wheaton Sr. and Madge Joiner Wheaton. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Osborne Wheaton. A graduate of Lucy Addison High School, Class of 1942, he attended North Carolina A & T University. He was a veteran of the active United States Army and Navy and continued to serve his country in the Army Reserves, retiring as Retired Major. A member of First Baptist Church for almost sixty years, he served as a member of the Board of Trustees for forty-five years and was serving as its chairman at the time of his death. He was also former Superintendent and teacher of the Sunday School, Father of the Year of the Church - 1977, former chairman of the Board of Christian Education, and a member of the Helping Hand Club. He owned and operated Wheaton Plumbing and Heating Company for forty-four years. He was past president of the Roanoke Valley Breakfast Lions Club; recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow, the highest honor in Lionism; member of Aladdin Temple III, Shriners; Dukes and Earls Social Club; Retired Dining Car Employees; Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity; Board member of the YMCA Family Center; member of the Shelton Hunting and Fishing Club; U. S. Motor Coach Club and Family Motor Coach Association. In 1975 he was named ``Father of the Year"" for the City of Roanoke in ``Family Life"". He was appointed by Governor Gerald Baliles to the State Human Rights Council, where he served two terms. He was also honored by the Roanoke Chapter NAACP as one of the Black Businessmen of the Year - 1987. He also served on the Roanoke City's Board of Zoning Appeals. Survivors include his devoted wife, Audrey M. Wheaton; sons, Walter III (Rachel) Wheaton, Petersburg, Keith (Tracie) Wheaton, Nitro, W. Va.; daughter, Terri Wheaton, Radford; stepdaughter, Donna W. Davis, Roanoke; sister, Barbara W. Patterson, Roanoke; grandchildren, Carla Wheaton, Charlottesville, Lewis Wheaton, Petersburg, and Kianna Davis, Roanoke; sisters-in-law, Hazel W. Brown, Doris M. Mack, Fola C. Dickey, Elaine Stovall; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church. N. Jefferson St., with the Rev. K. B. Wright officiating and burial in Williams Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund of Fir st Baptist Church, 310 N.
