GIRL, 6, SAYS SHE WAS MOLESTED REPORTS ATTACK IN SCHOOL RESTROOM

A 6-year-old girl reported to police that a man molested her Tuesday night in a girls' bathroom at a Northwest Roanoke middle school.

Roanoke police refused to identify the school, but a city parks and recreation administrator confirmed that the incident occurred at Breckinridge Middle School at 3901 Williamson Road N.W.

The Parks and Recreation Department was holding a basketball game for girls and boys ages 7 and 8, said M.J. Safewright, the city's youth athletics specialist.

About 7:45 p.m., a man walked in on the girl in the girls' bathroom nearest the gymnasium, according to police.

The man asked the child if it was the boys' restroom. The girl said it was not. The man then reached for the child, grabbed her shorts, pulled them down and molested her, police said.

The man told the girl to remain in the restroom after he left, police said.

The girl reported the incident to her father. Police did not say if the girl was injured.

Police would not comment about any suspects they may have. Roanoke youth detectives are investigating the case. No one had been arrested as of Wednesday.
