AMOS, Carl William, 71, of Vinton, went to be with the Lord Thursday, January 18, 1996. Mr. Amos was a lifetime member of Red Hill Church of the Brethren and also was a friend at Westhampton Christian Church. He was an Army veteran, having served during World War II, and was retired from the N&W Railway. Mr. Amos was preceded in death by his former wife, Mildred Trout Amos, and is survived by his wife, Arnetta Woody Amos, Vinton; daughter, Linda Gayle Boyd, Moneta; three grandchildren, Justin, Elizabeth and Jennifer Boyd; brothers, Ernest Amos, Roanoke, Harold Henry Amos, Moneta, Timmy Amos, Roanoke; sister, Shirley Muncy, Roanoke; a special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ruby and Allen Willis, Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted at Red Hill Church of the Brethren, 2 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 1996, with Dr. G. Ernest Deyerle, Dr. Paul Mathney and the Rev. Walter Bingham officiating. AUSTIN, Marie Sowers, 77, of Floyd, died Friday morning, January 19, 1996, at Montgomery County Regional Hospital. She was the widow of Clarence E. Austin. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Allen Smith, Pilot, Phyllis and Luther Bower, Floyd; five grandchildren, Joe Bower, Floyd, Christy Bower, Cookville, Tenn., Sherry Sue Smith, Anna Lee Smith, Lori Beth Smith, all of Pilot; one sister and brother-in-law, Glada and Nelson Hale, Check; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Stanley and Vera Sowers, Clinton and Illene Sowers, all of Christiansburg, Oscar B. (Tom) and Imogene Sowers, Floyd; three sisters-in-law, Elva Sowers, Allene Epperly, both of Floyd, Garnett Ghamo, California; several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, Floyd, with the Rev. Lawrence Nuckles and the Rev. Elbert L. Naff officiating. Interment in the Red Oak Grove Church Cemetery. BELFIORE, Mary G., 74, of Roanoke, f ormerly of New Milford, Conn., died Wednesday, January 17, 1996. She was a retired teacher from the New Milford Public School Systems and a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in New Milford, Conn. Mrs. Belfiore was a long time volunteer at the New Milford Hospital. Surviving are a husband, Frank Belfiore; daughter and son-in-law, Mardi Belfiore and Paul Brooks of Roanoke; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Jo Ann Belfiore of Brookfield, Conn., Mark and Suzanne Belfiore of Boulder, Colo.; two grandsons, Todd and Andrew Belfiore; sisters, Alyce Rowins of New Town, Conn., Irene Chause of Westport, Conn.; a brother, Stanley Golembeske of New Milford, Conn.; also a number of nieces and nephews. COALSON, Nannie Campbell, 86, widow of Sam Franklin Coalson, died Thursday, January 18, 1996 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 21, 1996 at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Alley officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Marion. CROCKETT, Pearle Ehmig, of Radford, died Thursday, January 18, 1996 at her home. She was the widow of Dr. Eugene V. Crockett. She was a member of the Grove United Methodist Church, a member of the Virginia May Chapter Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #92. She was also a member of the Ki-Wives and a long time member of the Round Meadow Country Club. Surviving are brothers-in-law, L. H. Crockett, Wytheville, Warren Crockett, Bristol, Edgar Crockett, Roanoke, Ralph Crockett, Richmond, Davy Crockett, Roanoke; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Charles L. Ehmig, Clearwater, Fla., Mrs. June C. Browne, Virginia Beach, Mrs. Betty C. Tillie, Richmond; special friend, Roxanne D. Greever; and several nieces and nephews. EDMONDSON, David H. Jr., 77, of Meadowview, died Thursday, January 18, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Wagner Edmondson; five sons, David H. Edmondson III, Jerry Allen Edmondson, both of Roanoke, John Thomas Edmondson , Salem, William J. Edmondson, Watauga, Texas. Anthony W. Edmondson, Meadowview; two sisters, Annie B. FLETCHER, Herbert Maddox, (``Mac""), of Charlotte, N.C., born August 25, 1939 in Jackson, Ga., husband of the late Teresa Thurmond Fletcher, died Friday, January 19, 1996 at his home off Providence Rd., from head injuries he sustained an an automobile accident April 14, 1994 in Shenzhen, China. In his early life, Mac earned his Eagle in scouting, along with The God and Country Award and The Order of the Arrow. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a BS in Textiles after having been vice president of Sigma Chi, secretary of Delta Kappa Pi and was named to Who's Who. In 1968, he moved his family to Charlotte from Atlanta and founded what became Fletcher-Barnhardt & White, Inc., a promotional advertising agency. From two employees, it has grown to over 100 today and is, by far, the largest agency of it s kind in the Southeast. FB&W, with approximately 70 employees in its Charlotte locations, has 18 offices in the U. S. and a new office in Hong Kong. In 1993 he took the entire company on a cruise to Nassau to celebrate its 25th anniversary and he was nominated for the Chamber's Entrepreneur of the Year Award. During this growth, Mac found time to work with Open House, the Drug Education Center, Charlotte Treatment Center (Amethyst), Charlotte Latin School, was board chairman of Florence Crittenton Home, but his favorite volunteer role was The Fletcher School. He was a co-founder in 1982 and its largest fund raiser. The Fletcher School now has 100 students and is dedicated to mainstreaming students with specific learning disabilities, striving to meet their needs at an affordable cost. He loved every facet of life, but his passions were his family, golf, fishing and American Indian history. He was a member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Britt Fletcher; daughter, Mary Cathlin Fletcher, Charlotte, N.C.; sons, David Bolton Fletcher, Hong Kong, Richard Maddox Fletcher, Charlotte, N.C., Christopher Michael Fletcher, Boone, N.C.; three stepchildren, Jennifer Joy Jones, Boone, N.C., Britt Austin Jones and John Jefferson Jones Jr., both of Orlando, Fla.; and sister, Judy Fletcher Cannon, Oklahoma City, Okla. Active pallbearers are Jack Barnhardt, John White, Tom Scarbrough, Chuck Lambeth, Al McConkey, Dr. Norton Baker, Phil Blount, Randy Hines, David Wilds and Charlie Holt. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Fletcher-Barnhardt & White. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Myers Park Presbyterian Church. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn East Cemetery. GILMORE, Garland Olin, 70, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, January 18, 1996 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Margie Evans Gilmore. Born March 7, 1925 in Montgomery County, he was a son of the late John Taylor and Dorothy Britt Gilmore. He was retired District Manager with Southland Life Insurance Company, with 35 years of dedicated service. He was a graduate of Virginia Tech, and Strayer College of Accounting, Washington, D.C. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, serving in the 141st Infantry Regiment-Medical Division. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star, Medal for heroic achievement in combat, the Purple Heart Medal, and the World War II Victory Ribbon. He was a member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Pulaski and Beaulah Baptist Church in Lynchburg, a member of the Elks and Lions clubs of Lynchburg, and served as chairman of donor recruitment for the Pulaski chapter of the American Red Cross. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Larry Dale Gilmore of Dublin, Roger Allen Gilmore of Richmond; a daughter, Karen Gilmore Green of Lynchburg; four brothers, William E. Gilmore of Narrows, Teddy L. Gilmore of Winston-Salem, N.C., Richard H. Gilmore of Lynchburg, Sidney A. Gilmore of Pearisburg; and five grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Diuguid Waterlick Chapel by the Rev. Anthony Z. Gurganus and the Rev. Grover Putnam, with burial to follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. HILL, Barbara Ann Wilkerson, (``Speedy""), 56, of Route 1, Box 79, Huddleston, died Thursday, January 18, 1996. Ms. Hill was born May 21, 1939 in Gladys, Virginia to Claude W. Wilkerson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Sybil Stern Powell of Madison Heights. She was a member of Staunton Baptist Church in Huddleston and a Front End Manager for Commercial Glass & Plastic with over 30 years service. In addition to her father and mother, she is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Joe L. and Laura Hill and Mark W. Hill, all of Madison Heights; a granddaughter, Ashley Ryan Hill, Madison Heights; a grandson, Cody Lee Morris, South Boston; two brothers, Ronald C. Powell, Madison Heights, Carl E. Powell Jr., Forest; a special friend, Danny Wright, Huddleston; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Carl E. Powell Sr. in 1986. MEEKS, Gladys M., 85, of 517 Grayson St., Rocky Mount, died Thursday evening, January 18, 1996 in the local hospital. She was a charter member of Furnace Creek Baptist Church, and a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class for 43 years. Surviving are her husband of 72 years, William Lewis Meeks of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Viola M. and Jesse Turner, Patrick Springs; five sons and daughters-in-law, Wilbern and Martha T. Meeks, Rt. 5, Bassett, James J. and Virginia O. MERCER, George M., 81, of Roanoke, died Friday, January 19, 1996. Formerly of Richmond, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette W. Mercer. Mr. Mercer was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church. MILLER, Roy J., 68, of Bedford, died Thursday, January 18, 1996 at Lewis-Gale Hospital, Salem, following a brief illness He was born in Roanoke on August 28, 1927, son of the late Homer Randall Miller and Annie Mae Redman Miller. He was an active member of Thaxton Baptist Church, BPOE Elks Lodge #321, Lynchburg, Peaks of Otter Chapter #2157 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Loyal Order of the Moose, Bedford Lodge #1897. Mr. Miller retired on February 26, 1990 as Plant Supervisor for Rubatex Corp. with 36 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Frances Karnes Miller; two sons and daughters-in-law, James R. (Randy) and Dorothy R. Miller of Huddleston, Roger L. and Linda A. Miller of Roanoke; three daughters and sons-in-law, Faye Frank Ham of Richmond, Pamela M. and Robert G. Lloyd of Louisa, Kathy M. and Carl G. Saunders of Bedford; two sisters, Rachel M. Cheek of Huddleston, and Ethel M. Garten of Bedford; also nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. MINTON, Julius Andrew, 100, of Appalachian Christian Village, Johnson City, Tenn., died Thursday, January 18, 1996. He is native of Bertee County, N.C., he resided in Roanoke Va. for more than 50 years where he was a Merchant in the Meat Business. Mr. Minton came to Kingsport Tenn. in 1971 and lived at Appalachian Christian Village since 1980. He was a member of the Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church in Johnson City and a member of the Lakeland Masonic Lodge #190. He was also a Shriner and a former member of the Elks Lodge. Mr. Minton was preceded in death by his wife, Mary B. Minton and a son, Julius A. Minton Jr. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Charlotte) Neely, Kingsport, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Andy Minton, Charlottesville, Mrs. Candy Cummings, Charlottesville, Kirk Minton, San Francisco, Calif., Patricia Neely, Daytona Beach, Fla.; five great-grandchildren. ORANGE, James Henry, (``Jim""), 66, of 2487 Calf Mountain Road, Waynesboro, died Friday, January 19, 1996 at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, Va. He was born in Bedford County, Va., January 8, 1930, a son of the late James T. and Lula Heck Orange. He is a graduate of Montvale High School. PAYNE, Icy Burnett, 77, of Rt. 2, Max Meadows, died Friday, January 19, 1996 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Normie Lester Burnett and Vada Viola Harmon Burnett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph William Payne, and a son, Carlos Elroy Payne. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Mildred Ethelene and John Amos; one granddaughter, Karen Amos, all of Penhook; four sisters, Eska York of Barren Springs, Thelma Odine Baker and Hazel York, both of Rt. 2, Max Meadows, Rosie Felts of Hillsville; four brothers, Clyde Burnett of Pulaski, Clarence Burnett and Lonnie Burnett, both of Rt. 2, Max Meadows, Buford Burnett of Barren Springs. PHIPPS, Lois Ann, 64, a resident of 20157 Woodland Hills, Abingdon, died Thursday, January 18, 1996 in Reston, V a. She was a native of Roanoke County, Va. and had lived near Abingdon most of her life. She was a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Southwestern State Hospital in Marion, Va. and was active in the Virginia Nursing Association. She was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Lee Phipps Rasnake and Sally Phipps Tipton, both of Abingdon; two sons, Tom Phipps, Abingdon, Charles Phipps, Reston; three sisters, Martha Flora, Mary Coles and Bess Coles, all of Roanoke; one brother, Rowland Coles, Roanoke; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. QUESENBERRY, Eugene, 65, of Route 2, Willis, passed away Friday, January 19, 1996 at Radford Community Hospital. He was retired from Roanoke Electric Steel Corp. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Cox Quesenberry, Willis; two sons and daughter-in-law, Justin and Diane Quesenberry, Alum Ridge, Gerry Quesenberry, Floyd; two daughters and son-in-law, Patricia and David Bolt, Dugspur, Lesa Bolt, Willis; three brothers, Glen Quesenberry, Rudolph Quesenberry, both of Willis, Roy Quesenberry, Princeton, W. TEELE, John J., 29, of Queens, N.Y., died Tuesday, January 16, 1996. He was preceded in death by his father, Peter Teele. Suriviving are his mother, Lois Teele, Christiansburg; three brothers, Byron Teele and Anthony Teele, both of Christiansburg; Stephen Teele, Queens, N.Y. WEBB, Edward Camdon, 89, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, January 17, 1996 in a Salem nursing home. He was born in Indian Mills, West, Virginia, March 1, 1906. He was the son of the late Robert M. and Josephine Harvey Webb. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Minnie Lou Webb; one brother, Howard Webb, Roanoke; three sisters, Mrs. Virginia Vines, Windermere, Fla., Mrs. Ruth Hawley, Pineville, W.Va. and Mrs. J. W. Mize, Roanoke; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Glendola Duncan, Roanoke and Mrs. Clynda Harris, Stuart, Va. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 1996, with the Rev. Emory N. Tarpley officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, where the family will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday

WELCH, Gladys Bell, 81, of Roanoke passed away Friday, January 19, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Price Welch. She is survived by two sons, Joseph D. Welch and finance' Nanette Duncan, Roanoke, John R. and wife Jean Moore, Martinsville; four grandchildren, Joseph Welch II., Larry Moore, Jeanette Moore and Allen Moore. Funeral services will be conducted noon Monday, January 22, 1996 at Lotz Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Joe R. Bryant officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemete ry, Vinton.
