BENDL, Marjorie V., 44, of Lexington, died Friday, January 19, 1996, at her home, attended by her family and hospice. An early resident of York County, she was graduated from York High School, Virginia Commonwealth University and the T. C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond, and was a member of the Virginia State Bar. She worked for the Virginia Employment Commission as an appeals officer, and was active in community affairs in Lexington. She was a member of the R. E. Lee Memorial Episcopal Church, was past president of the Lexington/Rockbridge County League of Women Voters, and helped start the ``Childnet"" program for afterschool care of children at Waddell Elementary School. She helped start the Book Club and was a frequent contributor to The Rockbridge Advocate. She was an active member of the Blue Hole Club and was known for her love of gardening and her talent as a quilter. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Richard Moore; a son, Richard Henning Moore Jr.; a daughter, Virginia Bendl Moore; her parents, Robert and Bunny Bendl; a sister, Helen Cronk; three brothers, Robert Bendl, Steve Bendl and David Bendl, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service in celebration of Marjorie's life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, January 22, 1996, in the R. E. Lee Memorial Episcopal Church, with the Rev. R. David Cox and the Rev. Dr. Sandra Levy officiating. The family will receive friends at home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Yellow Brick Road Childcare Center or Childnet. BOLEN, Imo Carpenter, 73, of Hillsville, passed away Friday, January 19, 1996, in Twin County Regional Hospital. Born on November 27, 1922, in Carroll County, she was a daughter of the late Corbett Carpenter and Maggie Hanks Carpenter. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Mike Clontz of Galax; five sons and daughters-in-law, E. G. and Linda Bolen, Curtis and Donna Bolen, Ray and Irene Bolen, Jack and Christine Bolen, and Virgil and Shelby Bolen of Hillsville; 14 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, January 22, 1996, at Shiloh United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bill Edmonds and the Rev. Joe Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Farmer Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 1996, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville. CARR, Alton, (``Cowboy""), 67, of Redwood, died Saturday, January 20, 1996. Born on February 13, 1928, he was a son of the late Posey L. and Lula Holland Carr. He is survived by his wife, Mary Davis Carr of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Linda Carr, and Bruce and Beverley Carr of Roanoke, and Shannon and Cathy Carr of Redwood; one daughter and fiance, Dawn Carr and Charles Linenfelser of Bedford, and five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Walter and Pearl Carr, and Eugene and Linda Carr of Roanoke, Raymond and Betty Carr of Maryland, Nelson and Iris Carr of Floyd and George Carr of Roanoke. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, January 22, 1996, at Lynch Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. CROCKETT, Pearle Ehmig, of Radford, died Thursday, January 18, 1996, at her home. She was the widow of Dr. Eugene V. Crockett. She was a member of the Grove United M ethodist Church, and a member of the Virginia May Chapter Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #92. She was also a member of the Ki-Wives and a longtime member of the Round Meadow Country Club. Surviving are brothers-in-law, L. H. Crockett, Wytheville, Warren Crockett, Bristol, Edgar Crockett, Roanoke, Ralph Crockett, Richmond, Davy Crockett, Roanoke; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Charles L. Ehmig, Clearwater, Fla., Mrs. June C. Browne, Virginia Beach, Mrs. Betty C. Gillie, Richmond; special friend, Roxanne D. Greever, and several nieces and nephews. DALTON, William Clive, 81, of Dugspur, died Saturday, Jan uary 20, 1996, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Carroll County on December 4, 1914, to Enoch and Viola Texas Branscome Dalton. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pauline Goad Dalton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and William Helton of Fredericksburg, and Cecelia and Edward Harper of Hillsville; a son, William Roland Dalton of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Laura Ella Dalton Horton of Hillsville; two brothers, Glen E. Dalton and E. Guy Dalton of Dugspur; three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 23, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Bible Church, Dugspur, with the Rev. J. DAUB, Anita Talg, of Blacksburg, died in Richfield Nursing Home Friday, January 19, 1996. Born in Wonewoc, Wis., August 18, 1921, she was the daughter of Ester Wellman Talg and the late Louis W. Talg. Mrs. Daub lived in Petersburg, Va. from 1945 until moving to Blacksburg, Va. in 1968, where she became secretary to the Dean of College of Agricultural Economics, and later the secretary to the Dean of the College of Education at V.P.I. & S.U. until her retirement in 1984. Surviving include her mother, Ester W. Talg of Wonewoc, Wis.; her husband, Lorin Richard Daub of Blacksburg; her son and daughter-in-law, Richard R. and Elleanore Daub of Richmond; her daughter, Barbara Lynn Daub of Roanoke; her granddaughters, Jennifer Lynn Daub of Harrisonburg, and Jesse Daub of Richmond; a brother, Norbert Talg, Wonewoc, Wis. A memorial service will be held at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Prices Fork and Toms Creek Road, N.W., Blacksburg 2 p.m. Monday, January 22, 1996 with the Rev. Gary Schroeder officiating. JONES, James Eugene, (``Jimmy""), 74, of Richfield Nursing Home, Salem, died Saturday, January 20, 1996, at Lewis-Gale Hospital following a lengthy illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Jeannette P. Jones; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Clint Collins of Covington, and Judi and Todd Huffman of Richmond; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmie S. and Tammy Jones of Riner, and Buddy and Carol Jones of Danville; two sisters, Mrs. Cline (Bernice Black) Hall of Bluefield and Mrs. Marion P. Richardson of Salem; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert L. and Irene Jones of Blue Ridge, and grandchildren, Cameron Trent Young of Salem, Ginger Wray of Roanoke, Christopher Jones of Stanardsville, Megan Jones of Riner, Lindsay and Caroline Huffman of Richmond, Nicholas, Amanda and Ryan Jones of Danville, and one great-grandson, Cameron Trent Young Jr. of Salem. Mr. Jones was a funeral director for many years in the Salem area. He was a member of the Salem Rescue Squad and also was very active in the Jaycees and Lions Club, holding both local and state offices. Services will be held at Locust Grove United Methodist Church in Salem Tuesday, January 23, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Mike Derflinger will officiate. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Oakey's North Chapel. KRUGER, Dennis Paul, 55, of Roanoke, died Saturday, January 20, 1996. Surviving include brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Judy Kruger; niece, Joy Marie Kruger all of Oberlin, Ohio; and his extended family. He was employed at Norfolk Southern Corp. Among his exten ded family and special friends were the youth. He planned and worked on many youth retreats and received the Friend of Youth Award from the Catholic Diocese of Richmond in 1983. Funeral services will be held 7:30 p.m. Monday, Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church with Father Thomas J. Caroluzza and Father Jim Park officiating. MANN, Emma P., of Indianapolis, Ind., passed away on Saturday, January 20, 1996. She was the aunt of the late Payton Moore of Roanoke. MANUEL, Carrie J., of Roanoke, died Saturday, January 19, 1996. She was a native of Roanoke and a member of First Wesleyan Church and was retired from Ace Home Improvement. Surviving include her husband, Elbert R. ``Cotton"" Manuel Sr.; a son and daughter-in-law, Elbert R. Jr. and Margaret C. PHIPPS, Lois Ann, 64, of Abingdon, died Thursday, January 18, 1996 in Reston, Va. She was a former member of the Bristol Concert Choir. POFF, Joseph Henry, 94, of Floyd, passed away Friday, January 19, 1996 at Radford Community Hosptial. He was born November 20, 1901 to the late James A. Poff and Lyrena Walton Poff and was preceded in death by his wife, Bess R. Poff of 43 years. He was a Valedictorian of the first graduating class of Willis High School in 1921 and graduated from Roanoke College in 1925 and attended the University of Virginia Law School. He was a life long member of the Lutheran Church and active in its support. He was a 70 year member of Hylton Lodge #153, AF & AM and a member and trustee of Floyd Lodge #202, I.O.O.F. He was a member of the Floyd Montgomery Radford Bar Association and Virginia Bar Association. Mr. Poff represented Floyd and Carroll Counties and the Town of Galax in the General Assembly of Virginia 1958-1966 and as Commonwealth's Attorney for Floyd County 1932-1952. He took great interest in civic and political affairs exerting his influence for the benefit of the community. Surviving include four nieces, Ann Henley, Pulaski, Evah Webb, Charlotte, N.C., Mary Shoda, Princeton, W.Va., Ruth Elmore, Hinton, W.Va.; three nephews, Paul Hill, Willis, David Poff, Gainesville, Fla., James S. Maberry, Hinton, W.Va. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul H. Pingel officiating. Burial will be in Jacksonville Cemetery. QUINN, Frances Northcross, 91, died Friday, January 19, 1996, in Richmond, where she ha d lived since leaving her home on Richelieu Avenue, Roanoke, in 1994. She was the widow of Karl Clement Quinn, and a daughter of the late John H. and Mary P. Northcross of Elliston. Mrs. Quinn was a graduate of National Business College and had served on the Roanoke Girl Scout Council. She was a member of the Circle of Mercy of the King's Daughters, and president of the board of managers of the Mary Louise Home. She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Q. Schubmehl of Richmond and Susan Q. Wagner of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 23, at 2 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Thomas P. O'Dell officiating. Burial will be in Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem. SISSON, James Carlyle, 90, of Las Vegas, Nev., died Saturday, January 20, 1996. He grew up in Botetourt County, Va. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Sisson; a son, Duane Sisson and wife Doreen of Florida; a daughter, Colleen McDemott of Florida, and two brothers, Raymond T. Sisson of Roanoke, Va., and Truman A. Sisson of Salem, Va. Funeral services will be held in Las Vegas.

TYLER, Helen C., of Ja cksonville, Fla., died Friday, January 19, 1996 at her home. Mrs. Tyler was born in Marion, Va. on September 14, 1916. She spent most of her life in Hopewell, Va., before moving to Jacksonville, Fla. in 1989. ``Jo"" retired as Clerk of the Circuit Court of Virginia. She is survived by one daughter, Margaret T. Pirrung and husband, David of Jacksonville, Fla; one son, R. Scott Tyler and wife, Katie of Charlotte, N.C.; three grandchildren, Tyler Alden, David Pirrung Jr., and Jennifer Pirrung; two great-grandchildren, Kimberly and Rachel Alden of Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, George Cormany of Marion; one sister, Marigold Fox of Marion; one sister-in-law, Martha Cormany of Hopewell. Born July 29, 1976 in Lynchburg, he was the son of Margie Pugh Vassar and Roger Allen Vassar Sr. of Gladys. He was a 1994 graduate of William Campbell High School, a student at Central Virginia Community College, an employee of Finly Corp., and a member of Kedron Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Alicia Dawn Vassar of Gladys; maternal grandparents, Grady L. and Martha Elliott Pugh of Gladys; paternal granmother, Shirley Winston Vassar of Lynchburg; maternal great-grandmother, Mary Flossie Pugh of Concord; three aunts, Cheryl Claybrook and her husband, Mike and children, Brian Neighbors, Brittany and Ashley Claybrook all of Gladys, Marilyn Jenkins and her husband, Thomas and son, Chris Jenkins all of Christiansburg, Pam P. Hall and her husband, Jeff and daughter, Krystal Hall of Gladys; an uncle, Grady W. Pugh and his wife, Bonnie and children, Shannon and Kevin Pugh all of Gladys; and his girlfriend, Karen Dalton of Gladys. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, E. Burleigh Vassar.
