AROUND NEW RIVER

Pulaski going after delinquent taxes PULASKI - The town of Pulaski is stepping up its efforts to collect delinquent real estate and personal property taxes.

Its Finance Department has spent months researching and verifying tax data to identify a list of delinquent taxpayers. Those taxpayers will be notified of their back taxes due at their last known billing address.

If payment of the delinquent amount would cause a hardship to the taxpayer, the town will try to work with those who make a good-faith effort to pay up through a payment plan or some other mechanism.

People receiving delinquent tax notices who no longer own the property being taxed should advise the Finance Department of the name and address of the current owner. Those who believe their delinquent notices are incorrect should bring evidence of payment to the Finance Department or telephone 980-1000.

A Finance Department representative said the town would prefer not to have to seek delinquent taxes, but to ignore them is unfair to the majority of taxpayers who do pay on time. Taxpayers who do pay would be subsidizing those who do not.

Exhibit of quilts now on display

PULASKI - An exhibit titled "Quilts that Warm the Soul" is on exhibit through Jan. 28 at the Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley.

It features the talents of nine professional quilt-makers from Southwest Virginia and eastern Tennessee who make up Fringe Benefits, a design focus group with each member working to further her artistic development.

The group shares ideas and projects, critiques works in progress and participates in shows. Each member also belongs to other local, state and national quilting groups, but Fringe Benefits provides a professional network among its members.

All members are prize-winning quilters working in their own styles. Some of them are also authors, designers or retailers.

On Jan. 28, the final day of the exhibit, the center will hold a reception for the artists from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The pubic is invited to attend.
