AEP donates van for arts programs|

PULASKI - A vehicle for off-site programs by the Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley has been donated by American Electric Power, formerly Appalachian Power Co.

The 1991 Dodge Caravan will be used for arts programs in schools, for field trips to area museums and arts events, and for such activities as the center's Summer Concert Series in Pulaski's Jackson Park and the Claytor Lake Arts and Crafts Festival in which the center participates.

The gift could not have come at a better time, said center Director Michael Dowell. "The 1979 van we received from the phone company many years ago is literally on its last leg. We are afraid to drive it more than walking distance from the center," he said.

The 18-year-old center provides activities, programs and facilities to increase the understanding and enjoyment of the fine arts by valley residents. It offers classes, arts programs for schools and a gift shop. It welcomes prospective arts teachers or volunteers to work in the shop or help with the center's administrative business. "We need everyone interested and working to bring the arts to our community, no matter what your talents might be," Dowell said.
