Quality Coffee Co. of Roanoke said Tuesday it will move into a new office and warehouse in early March.
The 15-year-old company has outgrown its rented quarters at Roanoke Industrial Center, owner David Booth said. He has spent $71,000 to buy 1.473 acres of land in Deanwood Industrial Park from the Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority. The company will spend about $415,000 more for a 15,000-square-foot building at 1512 Hollins Road.
Quality Coffee employs 13 people and supplies coffee, tea, soft drinks, coffee brewing equipment and paper goods to restaurants, convenience stores, businesses and other commercial accounts between Charlottesville and Radford.
City officials screen potential purchasers of its Deanwood property to ensure projects will contribute jobs and investment to the local economy before they can proceed with plans, said Doug Chittum, a city economic development specialist.
Quality Coffee qualified, he said, because the company will pay the city at least $10,000 in taxes a year, employs at least 10 people for every acre of land purchased and is a longtime local employer.
Booth said he will try to offset his costs by qualifying for financial aid through a government enterprise zone program. His site is in an enterprise zone created by the state and city in 1984.
