NHL SENATORS FIRE HEAD COACH

The Ottawa Senators, with the worst record in the NHL, fired coach Dave Allison, hours after a major trade involving three NHL clubs.

This was the second time this season the Senators have dismissed their coach. Rick Bowness was fired Nov. 20.

Allison, who coached the Virginia Lancers of the East Coast Hockey League in 1989-90, lasted all of two months since replacing Bowness, and did not have much to show for his time. The Senators (8-35-1) have by far the poorest record in the league, with just two wins and a tie in their past 34 games.
