TUCKER, Ruth Carrie Preston, 82, of Roanoke, died Monday, January 22, 1996, in Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley. She was the widow of Arthur Lee Tucker and a member of Sweet Union Baptist Church in Roanoke. She was a former resident of Chilhowie. She is survived by one son, William Tucker of Summit, N.J.; one daughter, Rebecca Tucker of Roanoke; one brother, David Preston of Chicago, Ill.; three sisters, Doris Fitzgerald of Roanoke, and Margaret Griffin and Virginia Dixon of Philadelphia, Pa.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Chilhowie, with the Rev. E. T. Burton officiating. Burial will be in the Chilhowie Cemetery. BLAKE, John Jasper, (``Jack""), 85, of Roanoke, and formerly of Bedford, died Tuesday, January 23, 1996, in Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Lucille Blake, Bedford; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 27, 1996, at 1 p.m. at the Antioch Baptist Church in the Peaksville Community in Bedford County. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. CAMPBELL, J. Darlene, 56, of Vinton, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 1996 in a local hospital. She was the widow of, Warren A. Campbell. She was a member of the Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Pedigo Sunday Sc hool Class. Surviving are her mother and father, Ruby C. and Roy D. CROWDER, Wilber Ray, Sr., 80, of Troutville, died Wednesday, January 24, 1996, at his home. He was the son of the late John T. and Mary (Overstreet) Crowder. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy B. Crowder of Troutville; five daughters, Betty J. Altice of Wirtz, E. JoAnn Basham of Troutville, Judy C. Strobridge of Martinsburg, W. Va., Mary L. Prophet, Kathy D. Rhodes, both of Troutville; two sons, Wilber R. Crowder Jr. of Ridgeway, J. Wayne Crowder of Falling Waters, W. Va.; two brothers, Earl Crowder of Troutville, Clyde Crowder of Daleville; five sisters, Gladys Hall of Roanoke, Helen Dunbar of Hollins, Lila Gibson of Troutville, Ruby Collins of Roanoke, Thelma Jones of Callaway; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Mr. Crowder was preceded in death by one son, Roger L. Crowder Sr., two grandsons, one granddaughter and two brothers. DALTON, Averell MoRay, 68, of Hillsville, passed a way Wednesday, January 24, 1996 in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born March 14, 1927 in Carroll County, daughter of the late Pierce and Samaria McPeak Dalton. Mrs.. Dalton was preceded in death by two sons, Bobby Dalton and Doug Dalton. She is survived by her husband, Guy C. Dalton of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Jenel and John Webb, Joan and Donald Montgomery, Leshia Martin, Rita and Gary Lawson, all of Hillsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Buck and Linda Dalton, Hillsville, Jerrell and Debbie Dalton, Dugspur, Jeff and Karen Dalton, Hillsville; sisters, Alma Dalton, Emma Meyers, Cosby Nester, all of Hillsville; brothers, Sterling Dalton, Reeves Dalton, both of Hillsville; 20 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren. DePRIEST, Robert Houston, 78, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, January 23, 1996, in a Salem nursing home. Mr. DePriest, formerly of Buena Vista, retired from Burlington Industries after 45 years of service. He retired as the Manufacturing Planning Manager in the Carpet Division, and received a letter of congratulations on his retirement from President Ronald Regan. Mr. DePriest was a member of the Buena Vista Masonic Lodge #186 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, for 45 years; he was also a past member of the Rotary Club from 1948 to 1958. He was an Elder in the Buena Vista Presbyterian Church for 33 years, and of those served 22 years as the Clerk of the Session. In addition, Mr. DePriest was also Sunday School Superintendent and taught an Adult Bible Class for 25 years. During World War II, he served in the United States Marine Corps from May 10, 1943, until February 26, 1946, when he was released from active duty as a First Lieutenant. Mr. DePriest then served 10 years as chairman of the Selective Service Board of Buena Vista and received a certifi cate of appreciation from President Dwight Eisenhower. He continued serving his community with three years on the Buena Vista School Board. Survivors include his wife, Flora L. DePriest; daughters and son-in-law, Linda D. and Ken MacKenzie, Atlanta, Ga., Shelby J. DePriest, Harrisonburg; son and daughter-in-law, Brian M. DePriest and Alison Maxwell, San Francisco, Calif.; five nephews and six nieces. The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 554, Roanoke, Va. 24033-0554. EINSTEIN, Helen B., 89, of Radford, died Thursday, January 25, 1996. She was well known in the field of education, having served as elementary school supervisor and director of instruction in Loudoun, Culpeper, Charlotte, and Giles Counties. She was supervisor of Roanoke County schools for nine years and Reading Consultant for MacMillan Book Company for two years. She served as Radford University supervisor of in-service practice teaching in Scott and Lee Counties, and taught extension classes for The College of William and Mary. She is listed in Who's Who in American Education and was a past president of Virginia Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development. She retired in 1966. Miss Einstein received a B.S. Degree from Radford College, a M.A. from Ohio State University and did post graduate work at Columbia University. She was a member of the Grove United Methodist Church, a charter member of Sigma, Sigma, Sigma Sorority of Radford College, and a state honorary member of Alpha Delta Kappa. Miss Einstein is survived by two nieces, Helen K. Lepchitz, Radford, Dorothy K. Hair, Richmond; three great-nieces, Barbara L. McFarland, Larchmont, N.Y., Susan L. Leske, Radford, Sally H. Rice, Richmond; two great-nephews, Michael Lepchitz, Charlottesville, Norman Lepchitz, Radford. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the DeVilbiss Funeral Chapel with the Rev. FEUER, Henry Otto, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 1996. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after 23 years of service as a CWO2. Mr. Feuer served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Conflict. He was a machine gun instructor and an instructor of heavy equipment repairs, along with receiving many other service awards. After retiring, he moved to Roanoke and continued working with heavy construction equipment with Wiley Jackson and then Joe Bandy. He was a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church, the Marine Corps League, and a member of the Chosen Few (Survivors of Korea). Mr. Feuer is survived by his wife, Jeanette Mills Feuer; daughter, Janna L. Feuer, Waco, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Henry O. ``Hank"" Jr. and Pamela Feuer, Woodbridge; sister, Mrs. L. C. Board, Dallas, Texas; grandson, Frederic Otto Feuer, Woodbridge. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel, 12 noon, Saturday, with the Rev. Arthur E. Grant officiating. FIELDS, Anna Martin, 61, of Indianapolis, Ind., formerly Catawba, died Tuesday, January 23, 1996. Funeral 11 a.m. Monday, Shiloh United Methodist Church, Catawba. Arrangements by Lotz Salem Chapel.

FREEMAN, John Lewis, of Buchanan, departed this life on Wednesday, January 24, 1996, at the Veterans Administration Hospital after a brief illness. He was born September 14, 1920, and honorably served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Lapsleys Run Baptist Church in Fincastle, where he was a deacon, a trustee and a member of the Men's Chorus. On December 3, 1949, he married Naomi Jones, and to this union were born six children. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rita Freeman; a sister, Bertha Custis, and his parents, Lewis and Viola Freeman. He is survived by his wife, Naomi Jones Freeman; one son, Edgar Freeman of Buchanan; four daughters, Coretta Freeman of Buchanan, Darleen Hutcheson and Angela Hilton of Roanoke, and Gwendolyn Ghee of Salem; three sons-in-law, Phillip Hutcheson and Kermit Hilton of Roanoke, and Elton Ghee of Salem; one granddaughter, Tara Hutcheson of Roanoke; one grandson, Brian Hilton of Roanoke; one sister, Margaret Fennell of Buchanan; one brother, Harry Freeman of Buchanan; two brothers-in-law, Ozell Jones and Samuel Jones of Goode; three sisters-in-law, Elsie Richie and Virginia Wright of Bedford, and Genova Jones of Goode, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. HUTTON, Fred Clifton, 76, of Marion, died Wednesday, January 24, 1996 in Smyth County Community Hospital. He was the son of the late Price and Lockie Hutton . He retired, after 42 years, with Norfolk & Western Railway. He was a life-long member of the Centenary United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dawn W. Hutton of Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Wayne Shanks of Knoxville, Tenn.; one grandson, Chris Shanks of Knoxville, Tenn.; one granddaughter and husband, Melanie and David Combs of Maryville, Tenn. She retired from Peebles Department Store after 20 years service. She is survived by her husband, Guy S. O'Connell; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan A. and Robert W. OYLER, Mary Jane, 96, of 1011 Persinger Road, Roanoke, passed from this life Thursday, January 25, 1996, to her heavenly home. She was a charter member of New Hope Christian Church and the widow of James Henry Oyler. She was also preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Hampton and Ida (Girlie) Oyler; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Elmo (Red) Ellis; daughter, Gladys O. Webber; sons-in-law, Lawrence M. Griffin, Joseph R. Wimmer Sr., Charles C. Turner; grandchildren, Nannie Jane Wimmer, Becky Marie Wimmer; brothers, Jabe, Ward, and Leonard Moses. RUTHERFOORD, Dona Walton, 76, of Roanoke, died Thursday, January 25, 1996 in a local hospital. She was born December 19, 1919 in New York, New York and graduated from Kew Forest School (Forest Hills, Long Island, N.Y.), New York's Miss Hewitt's School and Finch College. Mrs. Rutherfoord was a member of the Junior League of Roanoke Valley, Roanoke Valley Garden Club, The Needlework Guild of America, The Roanoke Assembly, The Modern Arts Club and The Chestnut Hill Club. She was married at the Church of the Heavenly Rest in New York City on August 22, 1945. Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Thomas Downman Rutherfoord, Roanoke; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Downman Jr. and Jean Hall Rutherfoord, Washington, D.C., Walton Ingoldsby and Marie Durden Rutherfoord, Roanoke; four grandchildren, Thomas Downman Rutherfoord III and Alexander Penn Rutherfoord, both of Washington, D.C., Gennette Oller Rutherfoord and Isabel Ballin Rutherfoord, both of Roanoke. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church at 2 p.m. Saturday. Inurnment will be private. SHEPPARD, Glenna M., 74, of Prices Fork, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 1996, at her sister's home. She was a lifelong resident of Prices Fork. Glenna was a retiree of Virginia Tech, Physical Plant Department, after 38 years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther C. and Emaline P. Sheppard; one brother, John M. Sheppard; and five sisters, Dorothy Sheppard, Edith Caldwell, Reba Price McCoy, Murrel Smith, and Susan Fain. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Della S. and Paul Hetherington of McCoy; one grandson, Jonathon P. Hetherington, Des Moines, Iowa; one brother and sister-in-law, Willie (Bill) and Dolly Sheppard; one sister and brother-in-law, Esther and George Calvin Barker; a special nephew, Calvin Dean Barker, all of Prices Fork. Also surviving are 15 nephews; 18 nieces; and numerous great-nephews; and great-nieces; also many good friends. SHORT, Ruth Price, 72, of Wilmington, N.C., died Tuesday, January 23, 1996 following a long illness. Mrs. Short was a member of the Green Valley United Church and was a member of the Eastern Star. She was born in Eggleston on December 24, 1920, and was a daughter of the late Charles Wirt Price and Mamie Stevens Price. Mrs. Short was preceded in death by her husband, Ennis E. Short Sr. She is survived by two sons, Ennis E. Short Jr. of Goose Creek, S.C. and David L. Short of Winnabow, N.C.; one daughter, Delores S. Long of Leland, N.C.; one brother, Carrol Price of Winter Haven, Fla.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 27, 1996 at 1 p.m. in the Givens Funeral Chapel, Pearisburg, with the Rev. Larry Patton and the Rev. Kim Mustard Goddard officiating, with interment in Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg. SORRELLS, Will iam Mallory, 57, of Lexington, died Thursday, January 25, 1996 in Stonewall Jackson Hospital. He was born in Lexington on October 26, 1938, a son of Virginia (Miller) Sorrells, Lexington, and the late Theodore Sorrells. Mr. Sorrells was the owner and operator of the Main Street Auto Sales, Lexington. He was a U.S.. Army veteran. Mr. Sorrells was a member of the Oxford Presbyterian Church. In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Jean (Wallace) Sorrells, Lexington; one daughter, Kimberly A. Shaffer, Buena Vista; two stepsons, Butch Edwards, Lexington, and Darrell Sorrells, Roanoke; two stepdaughters, Beverly D. WEEKS, Nellie Painter, 88, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, January 25, 1996. She was the widow of Raymond A. Weeks and a member of Garden City Grace Brethren Church. Surviving are her guardian, Marie Weeks Dalton, Fincastle; a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted 12 noon Saturday in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park by the Rev. G. Douglas Witt. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Oakey's North Chapel.

WILLIAMS, Vera Jessee, 74, of Dublin, passed away Thursday, January 25, 1996 at Radford Community Hospital. She was a retired associate professor at R adford University. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Radford. Survivors include a daughter, Mary J. Tiller, Williamsburg; son, Wayne P. Jessee, Staunton; sisters, Nancy Graham, Pennington Gap, and Josephine Glass, Roanoke; brothers, Bernard Weston, Sebastopol, Calif. and W. G. Weston, Okeechobee, Fla.; sister-in-law, Evelyn Weston, Wilmington, Del.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 27, 1996, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Radford, with the Rev. Joe Burton officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Burial Park in Radford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Radford Public Library, 30 First Street, Radford, VA 24141. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford is in charge of arrangements.
