Lisa Childress of Roanoke had watched her husband, Tim, roll six perfect games. On Monday night, it was her time to shine.
Childress rolled a 298 at Hilltop Lanes, the highest game ever by a woman at Hilltop and the second highest in the Roanoke Women's Bowling Association. Her highest game previously had been a 265.
``I was pretty relaxed,'' Childress said. ``I really didn't get nervous until the 11th frame. That's when my hands got to shaking and my knees got to shaking. I did pretty well with the last ball, but my luck just ran out.''
Childress rolled a 166 in her second game and 152 in her third for a 616 set.
``I was extremely nervous [after the first game]. My lanes got a bit dry on me,'' she said. ``I think I was still on my high. It's pretty weird when you're bowling and everybody else stops to watch.''
An accounting analyst at Carter Machinery in Salem, Childress bowls twice a week and has been bowling for about eight years. She is one of two women in the major scratch league.
