Jeff Lang scored 18 points and Alex Phillips added 14 as Cave Spring downed Salem 54-47 in a non-district boys' game at Salem on Wednesday night.
The Spartans overcame an early 12-7 deficit to tie the score at 33-33 in the third quarter but the Knights pulled away. Lang went 6-for-8 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to ice the victory.
Herschel Thomas scored a game-high 20 points for Salem.
Fieldale-Collinsville 57, Patrick County 50: The Cavaliers made 6 of 7 free throws in the last two minutes to hold off the Cougars in a Piedmont District game in Collinsville.
Brad Harmon, who scored a game-high 17 points, made two free throws with three minutes left to break a tie and Andre Law knocked down 4 of 5 free throws to seal the win for the Cavaliers (12-2 overall, 12-1 in the district).
Stuarts Draft 70, Rockbridge 67: Shane Banks scored 30 points, including a 16-of-17 performance from the line, as the Cougars held off the Wildcats in a non-district game in Lexington.
Ricky Wright scored a layup to tie the score at 67, but Rockbridge fouled Banks on the rebound. Banks made both free throws for a 67-65 lead and Rockbridge (2-11) missed a shot to tie. Banks added another free throw for the final margin.
Fort Chiswell 77, George Wythe 68: T.J. King scored 17 points and Brad Hughes had 16 as the Pioneers downed the Maroons in a non-district matchup in Wytheville. Brian Barnes had 15 for George Wythe.
Rural Retreat 75, Northwood 55: Archie Arnold scored 13 points, Kenny Lethco had 12 and Barry Ward 11 as the Indians (3-9, 3-5) rolled past the Panthers in a Hogoheegee District game at Rural Retreat.
David Taylor scored 15 points for Northwood (0-13, 0-9) - all in the fourth quarter.
Craig County 55, Shawsville 46: Jamie Fisher scored a game-high 20 points and Dwayne Crawford had eight of his 15 in the fourth quarter as Craig County knocked off Shawsville in a non-district game in Shawsville.
The score was tied at 43 before Crawford scored four straight points as the Rockets (2-9) pulled away.
Shawsville (1-13) was led by freshman Simon Jones, who scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
Roanoke Valley Chr. 59, Prince Avenue, Ga. 54: Roanoke Valley Christian used a hot-shooting fourth quarter to slip past Prince Avenue in the first round of the Christian Cup XXI in Greenville, S.C.
The Eagles (11-3) made 8 of 11 field goals in the fourth quarter while going on a 14-2 run with under five minutes left to pull away.
Roanoke Valley Christian, will play Wesleyan Christian of High Point, N.C., today.
Girls
Roanoke Catholic 56, Carlisle 25: Teresa Monsour led a balanced attack with 12 points as the Celtics (7-7, 7-4) won a Blue Ridge Conference game in Martinsville.
Carlisle (6-6, 5-5) got 15 points from Brooke Holyfield.
Tuesday's games
John Battle 54, Rural Retreat 48: Jason Brummitt scored 19 points and Drew McCall added 10 as the Trojans downed the Indians in a Hogoheegee District game at Bristol.
Fort Chiswell 55, Bland 46: The Pioneers (6-7, 2-3) held the Rockets (4-7, 0-3) to two second-quarter points in their Mountain Empire District win in Fort Chiswell.
Glenvar 82, Craig County 35: Everyone scored for the Highlanders (12-5, 8-1) in their Pioneer District win over the Rockets (1-8, 0-6).
Rocky Gap 69, Galax 53: Will Dodson made seven 3-pointers and scored 29 points to lift the Eagles (6-8, 4-1) over the Maroon Tide (5-7, 2-2) in a Mountain Empire District matchup in Galax.
