Sean Osbourne scored 14 points Thursday night to lead Lord Botetourt to a 59-39 non-district boys' basketball victory over North Cross in Daleville.
Lord Botetourt (4-8) led by five at the half and had extended that to 11 points at the end of three quarters, but North Cross staged a comeback and pulled within five points with six minutes remaining in the final stanza.
Lord Botetourt keep the Raiders at bay with its free-throw shooting and by forcing turnovers with its press.
The Cavaliers shot 44 percent from the floor and had just 12 turnovers.
North Cross got a team-high eight points from Jeff Baetz.
Magna Vista 43, Bassett 35: In Bassett, Landa Martin scored 15 points as the Warriors won a Piedmont District matchup in Bassett.
Magna Vista led 23-17 at the half, but Bassett came back, cutting the lead to two with two minutes remaining in the game. However, the Warriors scored an easy layup and Bassett could get no closer. Jermaine Simmons added 10 for the Warriors.
Devone Claybrooks paced the Bengals (7-8 overall, 7-6) with 15 points and Corie Manns added nine on three 3-pointers.
Wesleyan Christian, N.C. 80, Roanoke Valley Christian 52: Wesleyan Christian outscored Roanoke Valley Christian 27-9 in the second quarter and went on to roll past the Eagles in the second round of the Christian Cup XXI in Greenville, S.C.
James Boyles scored eight of his 14 points in the second quarter and Dave Thomas had six of his 14 in the second to lead Wesleyan's run.
Nathan Jameson led Wesleyan (21-4) with a game-high 23 points, including five 3-pointers.
Roanoke Valley Christian (11-4) was led by Chris Huffman, who scored 11, and Mark DeLong added 10.
The Eagles will meet the winner of the Southside-Pinewood game at 6:20 p.m. today.
Girls
Virginia Episcopal School 49, North Cross 36: The inside tandem of Annie Mossburg and Hunter Daniel combined for 37 points as VES won a non-conference game at North Cross.
Mossburg finished with 21 points and Daniel had 16 for VES (7-2).
Mary Angela Mull led North Cross (3-8) with 16 points.
