Former Floyd County standout Lori Boyd led four Maroons in double figures as Roanoke whipped host Lynchburg 90-67 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game, giving head coach Susan Dunagan her 300th career collegiate coaching victory.
Dunagan becomes only the 10th active coach in Division III to reach 300 wins and only four have reached this plateau faster. She improves her career-coaching record to 300-91 and has been at Roanoke the last 15 years. Her teams have won 20 or more games a season for the past nine years, including five straight ODAC championships and 10 overall.
The Maroons (14-3, 12-2) jumped out to a 16-2 lead and never looked back. Ashley McCallum (William Byrd) scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds as every Maroon scored. Amy Athey (Cave Spring) and Marcee Hufton (William Byrd) each scored 11.
Roanoke won despite shooting only 28.6 percent from the field in the first half and 42.9 percent for the game, and getting outrebounded 54-47. The Maroons took advantage from the free-throw line, making 19 of 21 free throws in the first half to take command. The Maroons finished the night making 28 of 38 free throws compared to 8-of-18 free-throw shooting for Lynchburg.
Lynchburg (3-13, 3-11), which shot just 36.5 percent from the floor, made a late run near the end of the first half to cut the lead to 11 at halftime. The Hornets were led by former Fieldale-Collinsville standout Kelly Fackler, who scored 18 points, including five 3-pointers and grabbed 10 rebounds. Marsha Knadler added 11 points and Quakeela Miles had 10.
