A New York man faces drug and firearms charges after an investigation by the Montgomery County Drug Task Force.
The charges were placed Wednesday after task force members stopped a car with New York plates at the intersection of Peppers Ferry Road and U.S. 460.
Police said they seized $7,500 worth of powder and crack cocaine, $900, two pagers, a loaded handgun and what they think is a silencer for a hangun. They also seized electronic scales police said are commonly used in the drug trade.
The handgun had been reported stolen from a Montgomery County resident last September.
Police arrested Michael W. Bishop, 24, of Sunnyside, N.Y. He is charged with possesing cocaine with intent to distribute; possessing a firearm while possessing cocaine; carrying a concealed weapon; possessing a stolen weapon and possessing a firearm after being convicted of a felony.
The arrest concludes an investigation into drug trafficking between New York and Montgomery County.
Bishop, who formerly lived in the area, is being held in the Montgomery County Jail in lieu of $65,000 bond. An April 2 preliminary hearing has been set.
