BAKER, Howard Wayne, 81, of Rt. 2, New Castle, died Wednesday, February 7, 1996, in a Roanoke hospital. He is survived by his wife, Eunice D. Baker; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael W. and Angela Baker, Fincastle; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy B. and Victor Hernandez, Merritt Island, Fla., Susan B. and Karl Huebner, Forest, Va., Betty M. Baker, New Castle; two granddaughters, Mandy Baker, Whitney Baker, both of Fincastle; two sist ers, Winifred Lusk, Fresno, Calif., Dorothy Thompson, Camarillo, Calif.; a brother, J. B. BOND, Goldie Burgess, 85, of Floyd, widow of Graydon H. Bond, passed away Thursday, February 8, 1996, in a Roanoke hospital. She is survived by one brother-in-law, Glare Bond of Floyd; four sisters-in-law, Ava Belcher, Bernice Reed and Allie Burgess of Floyd and Ann Burgess of Norfolk, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Topeco Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Maberry Funeral Home.

CHITTUM, Nellie Maude Pugh, 74, of Roanoke, formerly of Vinton, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 1996. She was a widow of Willis Chittum. Survivors include four brothers, Russell Pugh, William Pugh, both of Vinton, Clyde Pugh, Roanoke, Percy Pugh, Troutville; four sisters, Leah Kelly, Vinton, Mae Short, Roanoke, Edith Hall, Winston-Salem, N.C., Katie Quesenberry, Roanoke; sister-in-law, Pat A. Pugh, Roanoke; a spe cial niece, Donna L. Clinebell; and also several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 1996, from the Lotz Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Robert A. Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. COUGHLIN, Kathryn Haley, 76, of Radford, died Tuesdsay, February 6, 1996 in Richmond. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Hill Coughlin ; and a son, William Hill Coughlin Jr.. She is survived by one son, James Joseph Coughlin, Radford; seven daughters, Ann Gill Coughlin, Charlottesville, Mary Coughlin Grady, Aylett, Margaret Coughlin Johnson, Richmond, Elizabeth Coughlin Daniels, Lynchburg, Kathryn Coughlin Starke, Richmond, Alice Coughlin LeShock, Radford, Judith Griffin Coughlin, Richmond; eleven grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Radford with Father James Grealish officiating. Interment will follow in St. Andrew's Diocesan Cemetery in Roanoke. The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home in Radford. A Christian Wake Service will also be held Friday at 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude's Building Fund or to the Radford Chapter of the American Red Cross.

DAVIS, Russell Sr., 55, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 1996. He recently retired as an employee of the City of Roanoke. He was preceded in death by his wife, Daisey Davis; his father, Charl ie B. Davis; and a brother, Benjamin Cook. Survivors include his mother, Marie Davis of Roanoke; one son and daughter-in-law, Russell Jr. and Fern Davis, Vinton; one daughter, Charlene Davis, Roanoke; two stepsons, David Nance, Texas, and Samuel Nance, Roanoke; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Michael Washington, Roanoke; three brothers, Charles Davis, Washington, D.C., Harold Davis, Minnesota, and Jimmy Davis, Roanoke; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Geneva and Robert Cotton, Detroit, Mich., Shirley and Ronald Harrison, Martha and Alfred Baxter, both of Roanoke, and Flossie Carey, West Virginia; ten grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends. GORDON, Darrell Dwayne, 30, of Rocky Mount, was released from his earthly suffering of brain cancer by the grace of God on February 8, 1996. He graduated from Cave Spring High School, Roanoke, and the Arnold R. Burton Vocational and Technical School, Salem. He was an electrician for Hensley Electric, Inc. when his illness was discovered. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Robert D. Gordon. Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Martha H. and Peter D. Garrett; his father, Robert G. Gordon; stepson, Justin Pratt; his brothers, Randy Gordon, Douglas D. Gordon, and Russell E. Gordon; his sisters-in-law, Teresa Didlake Gordon and Rhonda Kronvall; a stepsister, Janet E. Struck; nephews including Garrett Kronvall, Joshua Gordon, Joseph Gordon, Brandon Gordon and Michael Struck; a niece, Deanna Gordon; also his maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. A. D. Henderson. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Flora Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. William K. Dawson officiating. In lieu of flowers , the family has suggested memorials to Hospice of Franklin County, 124 Floyd Avenue, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151. GREGORY, Leroy Grey, 77, of Yanceyville, N.C., and formerly of Roanoke, died at the Danville Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, February 6, 1996. He was born on March 8, 1918 in Chase City, son of the late Earl Douglas and Mable Boswell Gregory. He retired in 1983 from the Appalachian Power Company in Roanoke, having worked in the Line Department for 43 years. He was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and faithfully served in the Roanoke Southwest Congregation as an elder for many years. He is survived by one brother, Clarence Whitney Gregory, Chesapeake Beach, Md.; two sisters, Mary Gladys Gregory, Tokyo, Japan, Grace Love Gregory, Milton, N.C. He leaves behind a host of close friends in the brotherhood of the faith, as well as fellow workers at the Appalachian Power Company, who were all very dear to him. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 1996, at Kingdom Hall, Yanceyville, N.C., Hwy. 62 North. The remains will be buried in the Farabow Family Cemetery in Semora, N.C. The family will receive friends at the Kingdom Hall Saturday from noon to 1:30 p.m. prior to the memorial service. Marley Funeral Home, Yanceyville, N.C., is in charge of arrangements.

HARRELL, George Douglas, 48, of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., and formerly of the Staffordsville community near Pearisburg, died Wednesday morning, February 7, 1996 in a Wilmington, N.C. hospit al. Born in Giles County, he was a son of the late James E. and Janie Albert Harrell. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army of the Viet Nam Era, and attended Giles High School. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Jones Harrell; one son, J. Cody Harrell, at home; one daughter, Hope Lee Harrell of Pearisburg; one sister, Linda Harrell Munsey of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.; his mother-in-law, Violet Jones of Rich Creek; and a special niece, Danielle Munsey of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, February 11, 1996, at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke, with Shahn Wilburn, Pastor of Riverview Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m.

HUFF, Timothy Edward, 32, of Christiansburg, died Wednesday, February 7, 1996, as the result of a construction accident. A lover of the outdoors, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Edward Huff. He is survived by one daughter, Patricia Huff, Christiansburg; his mother and stepfather, Maxine and Larry Wrenn, Christiansburg; a sister and brother-in-law, Roxanna and Terry Garrett of Pilot; his grandmothers, Ruth Huff, Nora Helms, both of Blacksburg; his great-grandmother, Pearlie Huff, Blacksburg; his girl friend, Monica Long of Christiansburg, and her children, Amy and Matthew; two nephews, Troy and Brian Garrett; several aunts and uncles; a number of special friends. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday from the Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Sloss, with burial in the Belmont Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, Box 176, Christiansburg, Va. 24073. JONES, Fletcher E., 46, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, February 7, 1996. He was a conductor for the Radford Division of the Norfolk Southern Corp. Surviving are his sons, Travis W. Jones, Franklin County, Stuart B. Jones, Patrick K. Jones, both of Roanoke; father and mother, A. W. and Mary Sue Jones, Roanoke; brothers, Steve A. J ones, Hardy, Wayne T. Jones, Franklin County; a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and two special cousins, Linda and Dixie. He was the son of the late John Harvey and Annie Pearl Quesenberry Manuel. He is survived by his wife, Irene McHone Manuel of Elon College, N.C.; four daughters, Mrs. Carol Tant, Little Rock, Ark., Mrs. Brenda Hix, Mebane, N.C., Mrs. Janet Finwall, Elon College, N.C., Mrs. Tammy Jacobs, Saxapahaw, N.C.; two sons, Scott Manuel, Graham, N.C., Steve Manuel, Elon College, N.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Merkey Harmon, Mrs. Peggy Collins, both of Max Meadows, Mrs. Agnes Jones, Graham, N.C.; three brothers, Paul Manuel, Pulaski, Kenneth Manuel, Speedwell, Carl Manuel, Salem. MARTIN, John T., 53, of Martinsville, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 1996 at his residence, 600 S. Memorial Blvd. He was a former resident of Comers Rock, Va. in Grayson County. He was born December 27, 1942 in Chicago, Ill., to Kyle J. and Esther Doty Martin. He was a truck driver with Fleetmaster Lines, Eden, N.C. Surviving are a b rother and sister-in-law, James F. and Loretta Martin, McFarland, Wisconsin; niece, Linda Martin, McFarland, Wisconsin; and several cousins also survive. The body is at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, Va. A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday, February 13, 1996 at 2 p.m. in the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel. SANTOS, Geneta Painter, 66, of Vinton, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, February 7, 1996. She was born in Lexington, Va. the daughter of the late Samuel L. and Pearl Brinegar Painter. She was retired from General Electric and was also preceded in death by a brother, William Painter. Surviving are her husband, Joseph Santos; son, Joseph M. Santos of Roanoke; daughter and son-in -law, Jane M. and Steve Yantis, Chattanooga, Tenn.; a grandchild, David Andrew Yantis; three brothers, Ernest Painter, Rockbridge Co., Charles Painter, Charleston, W.Va., Samuel Painter, Rockbridge Co.; three sisters, Rose Painter, Lexington, Elizabeth Hill, Charleston, W.Va., Lydia Blackburn, Lexington; also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at the Belmont Presbyterian Church 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Elliott Hipp officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park.
