COUGHLIN, Kathryn Haley, 76, of Radfor d, died Tuesdsay, February 6, 1996 in Richmond. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Hill Coughlin; and a son, William Hill Coughlin Jr.. She is survived by one son, James Joseph Coughlin, Radford; seven daughters, Anne Gill Coughlin, Charlottesville, Mary Coughlin Grady, Aylett, Margaret Coughlin Johnson, Richmond, Elizabeth Coughlin Daniels, Lynchburg, Kathryn Coughlin Starke, Richmond, Alice Coughlin LeShock, Radford, Judith Griffin Coughlin, Richmond; two sisters, Margaret Haley, Roanoke, Polly H. COX, Lannon Trent, 59, of Radford, and formerly of the Snowville Community, passed away Friday, February 9, 1996 in the Radford Community Hospital. Born January 18, 1937 in Pulaski County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Theodore Gerald Cox and Viola Cornelia Dishon Cox. He was a member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church, Radford and a retired brick mason and carpenter. Surviving include his wife, Gloria Jean Perdue Cox, Radford; one son and daughter-in-law, Lannon Brian Cox and Karen Lynn Cox, Snowville; one grandson, Zachary Trent Cox, Snowville; two sisters, Mrs. Arlene Quesenberry, Radford, Mrs. William (Leta) Creggar, Daytona Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Ted Cox Jr., Snowville, Jerry Cox, Snowville. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, at the Gethsemane Baptist Church Preston Street, Radford, Va. with the Pastor Jerry Gibson officiating. EARY, Charles Thomas, 60, of Salem, died Friday, February 9, 1996. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corp in 1974. After his retirement, he was an alcohol & substance abuse counselor in the Roanoke Valley. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Eary; sons and daughters-in-law, Edward A. and Deborah L. Eary, Roanoke, Daniel B. and Crystal G. Eary, Salem; daughter and son-in-law, Lora M. and Rex E. Muncy, Salem; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sister, Dawne Rita Utt, Roanoke; also among his many friends, a close and true friend, Wayne Patsel, Salem. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, February 12, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Salem, with the Rev. Bobby Pickle officiating. FORREST, Corrie Lycurgus Sr., 74, of Marion, died Thursday, February 8, 1996 in Smyth County Community Hospital. Born in Saluda, S.C. on October 5, 1921, he moved to Marion from Charleston, S.C. in 1951 to assume ownership of the Western Auto Associate Store, which he and Mrs. Forrest operated on Main Street for 34 years. Mr. Forrest had been a member of Marion Baptist Church since 1951 and served at various times as Chairman of the Board of Deacons, Sunday School Class Teacher, and Church Treasurer. Most recently he was Chairman of the Board of Trustees. In addition, Mr. Forrest had served the community as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Past President and member of the Marion Kiwanis Club, Past Master of the Masonic Lodge, Chapter #31, Past Worthy Patron, Marion Chapter #72, Order of the Eastern Star, Chairman of the Smyth-Wythe Regional Airport Commission, and as a Life Member of the Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. He served in the U.S.. Army in Europe during World War II. Mr. Forrest is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Lindsey Forrest, formerly of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons and a daughter, and their spouses, Cor rie L. Jr. and Nancy Forrest of Warren, N.J., Steven P. and Julie Forrest of Toledo, Ohio, and Virginia F. and Fred Karnas of Fredericksburg; three sisters, Mrs. James W. Bodie of Tryon, N.C., Mrs. Wilford Epps of Blackville, S.C., and Mrs. Austin Shelly of Barnwell, S.C.; four grandchildren, Lindsey, Anna, Valerie and Gregory; four nieces and four nephews. Besides these, he is survived by a lifelong friend, Mr. Carroll Padgett of Stone Mountain, Ga. Preceding him in death were two brothers, Mr. Hoyt Forrest and Mr.. Oscar Forrest; and four sisters, Mrs. C. A. Smith, Miss Frances Forrest, Mrs. David Herring and Mrs. Dora Mae Shaw, all of South Carolina. HARMON, Dixie Aker, 90, of Route 3, Wytheville, died Thursday, February 8, 1996, in the Malin Health Care Center in Wytheville. She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late William G. and Sarah Arnold Aker. She was a charter member of the Liberty Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church, also a charter member of the Liberty Hill Womens Ministry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Harmon and son, Eldridge Harmon. She is survived by, two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Alice Harmon of San Antonio, Texas, Carl and Janie Harmon of Max Meadows, Allene Harmon Gallimore of Wytheville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Lou and Earl Goff, Betty Sue Harmon, all of Wytheville, Odessa and Danny Hayes of Little Rock, Ark.; one brother, Buel Aker of Wytheville; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren also survive. HOWLETT, James Francis, 63, of King, N.C., died Thursday, February 8, 1996, in Winston-Salem, N.C., following a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Francis and Josephine White Howlett and a brother, Paul John. He was born September 17, 1932 in Boston, Mass. He is survived by his wife, Ann Scott Koch Howlett; sister, Mrs Joseph (Eleanor) Bertolaccini of Brewer, Maine; his former wife, Patricia Fitzgerald Howlett; seven children, Mrs. Jeff (Ann) Hall of Pulaski, N.Y., Mrs. James (Mary) Plott of Pulaski, Va., Mrs. Biff (Joan) Medlin of Kernersville, N.C., John Howlett and daughter-in-law, Lucy of Pulaski, Va., Mrs. Paul (Barbara) Hayden of Richmond, Va., Mrs. Brian (Cara) Newman of High Point, N.C., and Brian Howlett of Kernersville, N.C.; two stepchildren, Nena Koch and son-in-law, Robert Hortie of Chicopee, Mass., and Scott Koch and daughter-in-law, Adeena of Tobaccoville, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Howlett graduated from Medford High School and Tufts University in Medford, Mass., he was awarded a BSEE degree and a commission as Ensign in the U.S. Navy. He received a masters degree in Management Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Rochester, N.Y., Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program, Cambridge, Mass. He served in the U.S. Navy as chief engineer of the USS Greenwood. Mr. Howlett worked as Process Engineer for Combustion Engineering in the Nuclear Division. He became group leader of Project Engineering at the Hamilton Standard Division of United Aircraft Corporation. He moved into sales work as Sales Engineer at Kollmorgan Corporation, Inland Motor Corporation Subsidary. He then became Sales Manager of Cryonetics Corporation. Mr. Howlett returned to Inland Motor Corporation of Radford, Va. as Director of Marketing becoming Vice President. He became President in 1970. Mr. Howlett served as chairman of the Radford City School Board and is listed in Who's Who in Finance and Industry. He served on the Board of Directors of First and Merchants National Bank, Radford, Va. He served on the Board of Directors of St. Albans Hospital, former parishioner and Sunday School teacher of St. Jude Catholic Church and various civic organizations in Radford, Va. He was Past President of Electro-Craft a division of Robbins & Myers in Hopkins, Minn. He was owner and President of HM Systems, Inc. in development, design, and patent of brushless DC motors in Charlotte, N.C. A memorial Mass will be held Sunday, February 11, 1996, at 2 p.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church in Radford, Va. Father Jim Grealish will officiate. A memorial service will be held Monday, February 12, 1996, at 2 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church in King, N.C. Father John Shields will officiate. LONG, Philmore St. Clair Sr., 64, of Montvale, passed away Thursday, February 8, 1996 at his residence. He was born December 19, 1931 in Rockbridge County, a son of the late Crowder R. Long and Annie Higgins Long. He was self-employed in construction and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sadie Harris, and three brothers, Estil Long, James Long, Elwood Long. He is survived by his wife, Donna Gibson Long; seven daughters, Tammy Long, Amy Long, both of Montvale, Melinda Turner, Seminole, Fla., Anna Proxmire, Lora Smits, both of Pinellas Park, Fla., Sheila Hall, Clearwater, Fla., Monica Hale, St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sons, Philmore St. Clair (Bud) Long Jr., Jerry Lee Long, both of Montvale; a special grandson, Louis Proxmire, Montvale; a sister, Helen Bramlett, Moneta; two brothers, John E. Norford Jr. and Trevor Miller Norford, both of Salem; fiancee, Carol Anne Buman and her children, Christopher Alan Buman and Patrick Benjamin Buman, all of Salem; a brother, Raymond M. Born June 2, 1910 in Hiwassee, she was the daughter of the late Pete Kemp and Harriet Childress Kemp. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Toney K. Burton, Tildy K. Sutphin, Lillian K. Trail; and three brothers, Luther Kemp, James Kemp, and Arthur Kemp. She was a lifetime member of the Primitive Baptist Church, and a member of the Cheerful Ladies Quilt Club. Surviving are her husband of 68 years, Eugene Thomas Taylor, Pulaski; one daughter and son-in-law, Hattie T. James and Robert James, Dublin; one son and daughter-in-law, Stanley E. Taylor and Bonnie T. Taylor, Hiwassee; four grandchildren, William E. Taylor, Rockwell, N.C., Gail T. WICKLAND, Vernon D., (``Rex''), 76, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, February 8, 1996. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion. Mr. Wickland was preceded in death by his wife, Mary L. Wickland. Surviving are his son, Michael V. Wickland; daughters, Marlene O.
