JAMES RIVER FALLS TO BATH CO. IN OT

David Buzzard's layup with 11 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter sent the game to overtime, and Bath County dominated the extra period to beat James River 59-51 on Friday night in a Pioneer District matchup in Buchanan.

Bath County (12-2 overall, 5-2 district) got nine of its 12 points from the free-throw line in overtime. Jon Rodgers had five of his 11 points in the extra session, including a 3-pointer. Buzzard added four free throws.

James River (8-8, 0-8) led 26-17 at the half and scored the first eight points of the third period, but the Chargers came back by capitalizing on the Knights' turnovers.

Buzzard finished with 17 points for Bath County, Matt Williams added 11 and Cory Wolf 10.

Shahan Burrell paced James River with 14 points and eight rebounds, and Chris Firebaugh and Brian Shorter added 11 apiece.

William Fleming 60, Franklin County 48: The Colonels came out flat, but their size carried them to a home-court victory over the Eagles in the Roanoke Valley District.

Three players scored in double figures for William Fleming (11-5, 4-0). James Stokes led the way with 18 points, Sterling Tate had 14 and Brad Dunleavy added 13.

Jeremy Atkins led Franklin County (3-14, 1-4) with 10 points.

Glenvar 65, Highland 54: The Highlanders blasted out to a big lead and pounded the glass hard as they claimed a Pioneer District victory over the visiting Rams.

Corey Willis and James Williams sparked Glenvar in the opening half, combining for 24 points. Highland rallied in the second half, cutting a lead that had once been as many as 20 points, to eight. Josh Williamson sealed the victory by going 5-of-6 from the free-throw line in the final period.

Williams helped on the rebounds, grabbing 13 rebounds as the Highlanders overcame a poor shooting night (38 percent) with many second-chance buckets. Glenvar (13-5, 9-1) held the rebounding edge 45-30.

Williams and Williamson each finished with 18 points. Willis had 15 points and nine rebounds

Bryan Werner was the top scorer for Highland (5-8, 3-5) with 15 points. Jacob Hull added 12, including a pair of 3-pointers, and Timmy Harold had 11 points to go with 10 rebounds.

Northside 57, Lord Botetourt 39: The Vikings remained undefeated in the Blue Ridge District with an 18-point victory over the Cavaliers at Northside's gym.

Spence Peters led the Vikings (10-5, 6-0) with 14 points and Justin Porterfield added 11.

Wesley Cox scored in 10 to lead Lord Botetourt (4-10, 1-5).

Roanoke Valley Christian 76, Timberlake Christian 53: Mark Arbogast went 4-for-5 from 3-point range in scoring 22 points and leading the Eagles to a home-court victory in the Virginia Independent Conference.

RVC (14-4, 8-2) avenged a December loss at Timberlake Christian.

Arbogast was 9-of-11 from the floor. Simon Foster added 14 points, eight in the first quarter as the Eagles took a 20-8 lead. Mark DeLong and Joel Nestor scored 10 apiece for the Eagles.

Steve Glass led Timberlake (8-7, 4-6) with 14 points.

Covington 85, Craig County 57: The Cougars capitalized on 20 second-half turnovers by the Rockets and added to a two-point halftime lead as Covington sailed past Craig County in a Pioneer District game in New Castle.

Corey Whitaker had 21 points to lead twelve Covington scorers. Robert Roman added 11 and Kevin Holloway had 10 for the Cougars (11-6, 8-1).

Jamie Fisher paced Craig County (2-9, 0-7) with 19 points and Dewayne Crawford chipped in 18. Craig County's 20 turnovers in the second half was part of a 28-turnover night as it remained winless in the Pioneer District.

Hargrave Military 50, North Cross 45: The Raiders battled back but never could get any closer than two points in the closing minutes as they dropped a VIC game in Chatham.

Tommy Pierce and James Searcy each pumped in 14 points to pace the Tigers (5-11, 4-7).

Jeff Baetz scored a career-high 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead North Cross (1-14, 1-9).

Girls

Cave Spring 67, Patrick Henry 41:Jaclyn Banks and Cheryl Rhodes scored 10 points apiece to lead a balanced attack as the Knights routed the Patriots in a Roanoke Valley District game at Patrick Henry.

Cave Spring (9-5, 6-2) won the rebounding battle easily with their height advantage and never struggled.

Carrie Moore scored 17 points to lead Patrick Henry (1-13, 1-7) and Renea Hill added 12.

North Cross 36, Hargrave Military 17: Every Raider scored as North Cross crushed the visiting Tigers in a Blue Ridge Conference game.

Ann Ballenger scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Raiders (4-8, 4-4).

William Fleming 63, Franklin County 35: Revonda Barber scored 15 points and Shaunarey Walker had 12 points and 12 assists as the Colonels routed the Eagles in a Roanoke Valley District game at William Fleming.

The Colonels (10-4, 5-2) rolled to a 18-5 lead and coasted to victory. Kiann Trent added 11 points and Carol Ellis had 12 rebounds and eight points.

Penne Clayborne had 11 points for Franklin County (2-13, 1-8).

Roanoke Valley Christian 45, Timberlake Christian 28: Gina Guthrie scored 20 points and had five steals as the Eagles rolled past Timberlake Christian at Roanoke Valley Christian.

RVC (12-2) built a 16-7 lead and coasted to victory. Rebecca Bryant had 10 rebounds and eight points for the Eagles.

Debbie Phillips scored 11 points for Timberlake Christian (4-10).
