THE WRONG MESSAGE CONVEYED

I would like to comment on Jack Bogaczyk's article called ``The High Price of Success,'' the story along with pictures, featured so prominently on the front page of the sports section in the Feb.3 edition of The Roanoke Times.

This story conveyed a message about a young woman [Radford University's Patti Fisher] pursuing her love of basketball in spite of much adversity. That's great, nothing wrong with it; just another ``all-American'' young person following her dream. So, what's my problem with this story? Allow me to explain. I assume lots of young people will be reading this story and observing the huge picture of this young woman proudly displaying her illegitimate child. A positive message? I think not.

Surely, with all the young people who passionately pursue sports, Bogaczyk could have found a better moral example to do a full-blown article on.

Since this type of reporting in The Roanoke Times is so common, always glorifying immoral actions or lifestyles, is it any wonder our youth continue to hit new lows in morality daily?

Disappointed with coverage

As a longtime subscriber to the Roanoke paper, I want it known I'm very disappointed by the Peach Bowl coverage. Your paper did not even carry the game summary of the Peach Bowl; very poor. I'm glad I stopped in Atlanta and got a paper. UVa deserves the same coverage as Tech.

Bowl coverage? It's old news

How about everyone just shutting up about the bowl coverage? It would be a big favor to everyone.

However, I would like to comment on your excellent Fiesta Bowl coverage. Go Huskers!
