A memorial service will be held today at 2 p.m. at St.Mary's Catholic Church for former Virginia Tech assistant football coach William ``Moon'' Conde.
Conde, 69, died of cancer Friday in Bristol, Va.
Conde was a defensive line coach at Tech under Frank Moseley and Jerry Claiborne from 1959-65. He coached at Kentucky in 1967-68.
The Charleston, W.Va., native played collegiately at Kentucky from 1948-52, helping lead the Wildcats to three major bowl games.
Terry Strock, a current Virginia Tech assistant coach, said Saturday that Conde was beloved in the Tech football community.
``Moon didn't have any boys, so all the players were like sons to him,'' Strock said. ``He was a special guy, the kind of guy you'll never forget.''
