Eakin-Whorley
Diane Rene'e Whorley and Samuel Garnett Eakin were married on December 30, 1995 in Faith Alliance Church. The Rev. Paul St.Clair officiated the double ring ceremony. The reception was held at the Quality Inn in Salem.
Miss Pamela Patton was the maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Miss Mitzi Fisher and Miss Marcy Cooper, friends of the bride. Mr. Ralph Eakin served as his son's best man. The ushers were David Eakin, cousin of the groom; Brent Repscha and Rocky Bonham, friends of the groom. Music as provided by Ms. Evelyn Byrd. The guestbook was attended by the bride's aunt, Miss Donna Robertson.
The bride's gown was designed and sewn with much love by her stepmother, Mrs. James Whorley. It was white satin with a high neck and low back. It featured lots of lace with tiny pearls on the bodice and long sleeves. The full train was edged with lace, pearls, and white rosebuds. She carried a bouquet of red and white roses.
The bride is a daughter of Mrs. Teresa Webb of Roanoke and Mr. James Whorley of Georgia, and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Robertson. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Eakin of Craig County. After the wedding trip to Madison Square Garden, New York, the newlyweds reside in Roanoke, Va.
Malone-Sills
Edna Francine Smith Sills and Roland Hughes Malone, Sr. were married December 30, 1995 at Wesley Grove United Church of Christ in Newport News by the Rev. Isaac McDonald.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Troy Smith, Sr. of Hampton and Mrs. Margaret S. Jones is her godmother. She is a graduate of Bennett College and Hampton University and retired as a reading clinician from Hampton City Schools.
The groom is the son of Mr. Shelton Reamey of Roanoke and the late Mrs. Stella Blair Malone Reamey. He is a graduate of Ohio State University and Radford University and is a retired teacher/coach from Roanoke County Schools. He is now a real estate investor and president of RHM Properties, Roanoke.
The bride, given in marriage by her parents and Mr. and Mrs. Stephen L. Brown of Chicago, her daughter and son-in-law, wore an ivory Chantilly lace tea-length dress accented with pearls, iridescent beads and Austrian crystals. Her ivory hat was adorned with the same jewels and ostrich feathers.
Mrs. Linda S. Good, the bride's sister of Willingboro, NJ, attended a s matron of honor. The bride's daughter, Mrs. Tiffani S. Brown, and Mrs. Ann T. Stith, a friend of Hampton, were flower matrons. Mrs. Barbara M. Halsey, a friend of Danville, was the reader and a hostess. Other hostesses were Mrs. Ann Stith; Ms. Valerie W. Smith, a friend of Hampton; and Ms. Melissa Young, niece of the groom of Roanoke. Mrs. Ann Davis, the bride's friend of Hampton, directed the wedding.
Mr. Reginald Malone of Raleigh stood as his father's best man. The ushers were Mr. John Good, the bride's brother-in-law, Mr. Troy Smith, Jr., bride's brother of Hampton; Mr. Roland Malone, Jr., the groom's son of Roanoke; Dr. Robert Hylton, groom's friend of Westbury, NY; Dr. E. Wayne Harris, Mr. William Jernigan, Mr. Lindsey Robertson, and Mr. George Williams, friends of the groom of Roanoke.
A special moment in the ceremony embraced the uniting of the two families which included the bride's and groom's children including Mr. Rodney Malone, son, and his daughter, Marie, of Virginia Beach.
A reception was held following the ceremony at the Fort Monroe Officers' Club. Mr. and Mrs. Malone will reside in Hampton and Roanoke.
Markham-Chewning
Linda Marie Chewning and Thomas Hilbert Markham were married February 10, 1996, in Parkway House of Prayer. Rev. Ricky Mizack officiated. The reception was held at the Stewartsville Firehouse. The bride was escorted to the altar by her son, Chris Chewning and given in marriage by her children. The matron of honor was Tina Compton of Moneta, Va., daughter of the bride. The bridesmaids were Kimberly Chewning of Blacksburg, Va., daughter of the bride, Ashlee Chewning, daughter-in-law of the bride, Melissa Burton and Sandra McGuire, nieces of the bride, all of Roanoke, Va., Kathy and Jetana Markham of Stewartsville, Va., daughters-in-law of the groom. Flowergirl was Carman Parker of Hardy, Va. The best men were Keith and Daryll Markham of Stewartsville, Va., sons of the groom. Groomsmen were Jerry, Kevin and Jeff Overstreet of Goodview, Va., Ricky Markham of Roanoke, Va., all nephews of the groom, Freddie Overstreet of Blue Ridge, Va., brother of the bride, Bill Ferguson of Roanoke, Va., friend of the groom. Ringbearer was Jimmy Lipscomb of Vinton, Va., nephew of the bride. The bride is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George M. Overstreet and is employed by Walmart, Inc. The groom is the son of the late Mr. Travis H. Markham and Mrs. Ethyll V. Markham and is employed by Overstreets Foods. After a honeymoon to Pigeon Forge, Tenn., the couple will reside in Bedford County.
