GALAX PULLS UPSET ON GRAYSON CO.

Ken Houtz scored 29 points and Rodney Sawyers added 15 to lead Galax to a 65-39 upset victory over highly-regarded Grayson County on Saturday in a Mountain Empire District boys' basketball game in Galax.

The Blue Devils (6-8 overall, 3-3 district) held Grayson's Wes Self, who averages 17 points a game, to just four points to upset the No.2 team in The Associated Press' Group A poll.

Grayson County (16-1) didn't have a player in double figures.

Liberty 82, Nelson County 53: The Governors played with the state's top-ranked Group AA team for one quarter but that was it as the Minutemen clinched the Seminole District title with a 29-point win in Bedford.

Liberty (16-0) had three players score 14 points and two others score in double figures in the win.

Christiansburg 59, Radford 45: The Demons erased an early 16-point deficit to defeat the Bobcats in a non-district game in Radford.

Christiansburg outscored the Bobcats 24-8 in the final stanza. The Demons outscored Radford by 17 points from the free-throw line.

David Rhudy led Christiansburg with 14 points. Derrick Chapman had 14 for Radford.

William Fleming 49, Franklin County 33: The Colonels withstood a patient attack from the Eagles in a Roanoke Valley District game in Rocky Mount.

William Fleming remained unbeaten in the district with the 16-point victory. Franklin County (3-14, 1-4) suffered from a 14-for-49 shooting performance.

James Stokes led the Colonels with 18 points.

Highland 66, Circleville, W.Va. 49: Jabob Hull scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and Bryan Werner added 14 to lift Highland (9-12) past Circleville, W.Va. in a non-district game in Circleville.
