If anyone witnessed Cary Bednarek bowl Sunday at Hilltop Lanes, he'd have a hard time convincing them he carried a 137 average.
The 22-year-old Roanoker rolled a 300 game and racked up a 731 set for good measure.
``I got lucky,'' said Bednarek, who has been bowling for about three years.
Bednarek rolled a 253 in his first game Sunday, and said he would have been happy with that.
``There was no pressure on the second game,'' he said.
Until there was one strike between him and perfection.
``I started shaking on the very last ball,'' he said. ``I didn't even turn around. The whole lanes got quiet, and I knew everyone was looking at me.''
His perfect game was even more rewarding because he rolled it in front of his parents - Michael and Kathy Bednarek - and his fiancee - Jennifer Quesenberry - who are his teammates on the Kaiser Pins in the Hi-Lo Mixed League.
``They just looked at me and said, `You can do it,''' he said of his family's encouragement before his last roll. ``And I did.
``It was incredible. My grandparents bowl, too, and there's been no one in my family ever bowl a 300. It's been pretty exciting.''
